WMA Masters Award 2016/17
The WMA Masters (formerly WYNG Masters Award) welcomes photography submissions from all over the world on this year’s theme of MOBILITY. Images must relate to the theme and be made in or relate to Hong Kong. The deadline for submission is 30 September 2016 (23:59 Hong Kong time; GMT +8:00).
From now till 30 September 2016 the WMA Masters invites both international and Hong Kong artists and image-makers to submit photographic-based work. The visual content must be related to Hong Kong and to the chosen theme MOBILITY. Finalists will be selected by a panel of international judges and their works will be exhibited in Hong Kong in Spring 2017. A full-colour catalogue will be published to coincide with the exhibition.
The WMA Masters will also host a series of talks, panels, and seminars during the exhibition period. The winner of WMA Masters will receive a cash prize of HKD$250,000. Each of the finalists will receive HKD$15,000.
This year, applicants to WMA Masters who are Hong Kong residents will have a chance to be invited to submit an expression of interest for a professional practice residency at FORMAT International Photography Festival 2017. The winner of the residency will have an opportunity to visit FORMAT for the launch and have access to events, portfolio reviews, as well as have their work included in the FORMAT catalogue.
The WMA Masters’ international panel of judges is comprised of industry leaders in photography, art, publishing, and non-profit. They include Zoher ABDOOLCARIM, MaryAnn CAMILLERI, Abby CHEN, Louise CLEMENTS, Kevin WY LEE, LEUNG Po-Shan Anthony, Christopher PHILLIPS, Theme Judge (to be confirmed).
Contest Prize & TERMS
COPYRIGHT: The entrant must be the sole author and owner of copyright, intellectual property and all other proprietary rights in all pictures entered.
You will retain copyright and all other rights to any photograph you submit. USAGE RIGHTS: By entering the competition, you grant to the WYNG Foundation a worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive, irrevocable license to reproduce any of the images for any purposes in connection with promoting the WYNG Masters Award including, but not limited to:
Judging the WMA Masters
Voting
Inclusion within the WMA Masters website (upon submission and after), WMA website, WYNG media website, the exhibition catalogue or similar print or digital media published by the WYNG Foundation
Displaying the finalists entries at public exhibitions promoting the WMA Masters and its programmes
Inclusion within marketing and promotional materials (including emails, websites and press packs) for the WMA Masters and/or any related exhibition and programmes
Sub-licensing the entries to the press for reproduction in connection with the WMA Masters and any exhibition and programmes
Allowing viewers of the Website to view images on a computer screen, PDA, tablet or mobile phone
All entrants must be able to supply high-resolution images suitable for printing in media. WMA Masters will have the right to reproduce, distribute an unrestricted number, exhibit the images. There will be no monetary compensation for usage. It is understood that WMA Masters continues to develop its programmatic and marketing activities and the images produced as a result of WMA Masters may be used in ways not yet contemplated by WMA Masters. It is also understood the intensity with which the Images are used may possibly increase substantially due to future new ways of use.
The license does not affect the image maker’s proprietary copyrights over the images unless otherwise specified. WMA Masters undertakes to provide the image maker with photo credits in all instances where the images are published.
