We are very pleased to announce that our annual documentary photography competition, Vienna International Photo Awards 2013 – VIPA for short – is now open for entries. The VIPA mission’s is to draw more attention to documentary photography in Austria and worldwide. Ever since we have established the first edition, VIPA has become one of the leading documentary photography contests. We wanted VIPA to be different as we focus on a niche between press and art photography that is often lost sight of. The uniqueness of documentary photography lies in its rendering of a wide variety of themes, its distinct image characteristics and the plurality of perceptions in a way not found in press photography or art photography.

For VIPA 2013, we have 3 submission categories: Professional, Amateur, Smartphone

The competition will be judged by an international panel of prestigious museum curators, gallery directors, and fine art photographers: Antoine D’Agata (France), Catherine David (France), Jean-Baptiste Joly (Germany/France) Thomas Köhler (Germany), Laura Serani (Italy) and Anna Zekria (Russia)

New !!! This year, VIPA is also launching a live competition named Pict of the Week. Photographers are invited to submit one single image every week. Each Saturday, a gallery of the selected photos will appear online and submitted to public voting. The most voted photo will be published in VIPA catalogue and will be part of the finalists exhibition in Vienna.
