PHODAR Foundation organizes the Seventh PHODAR Biennial. The theme is CONTEMPORARY MYTHS.Humankind has always striven for the ideal, the absolute. The “real” consequence of this is the idealization and mythologization of people, events, processes, doctrines. Deadline Extended to 28th February 2011

Photography, which is essentially documentary, is expected to debunk myths, rather than create them, but … it is only a means. There might be many different points of view on this theme. We are waiting for yours! The Salon is open to photographers from all over the world.

We accept monochrome and colour photographs in TIFF or JPEG format with minimal compression, the shorter side of which has at least 2365 dpi (Color Profile: Adobe RGB (1998)). All photographs should be sent on a CD or DVD and should be accompanied by a short explanatory note containing: title of each photograph, year taken, a photo and CV of the photographer. Works which appeared in previous editions of the Salon will not be reviewed. The Biennial also accepts installations, in which the main source of information is a photographic image.

The photographs will compete in the following categories:

Category One – a portfolio of 5-12 photographs with a coherent message;

Category Two – for single photographs;

Category Three (Photo School) – for photographers who are still studying or are at the beginning of their career.

The Salon exhibition will be accompanied by numerous solo and group exhibitions and a two-day theoretical seminar, entitled CONTEMPORARY MYTHS.

Biennial “Phodar” is a large-scale photography project in Bulgaria. It was found in 1999 in Pleven, Bulgaria and its activity includes photo contests, exhibitions, theoretical seminars and portfolio appraisement by experts . From the founding till nowadays, “Phodar” has organized six photo contest in which more than 800 photographers, from 31 countries, with more than 10 000 works had participated .
