The RHS Photographic Competition 2013
The RHS Photographic Competition 2013 is now open and wants you to share your garden photography whether you’re a photography enthusiast, a garden enthusiast or new to both.
Perhaps you would like to share a view of your own garden, a garden you’ve visited, a particular plant that catches your eye or a small detail that fascinates you. There are also categories for people working in their gardens, the wildlife living in them and the seasons that affect them. We want to celebrate the wonder and diversity of gardens through photography.
Categories
Plants: Plant portraits that show the plant, tree or shrub as a whole or near whole entity. For example a photograph that includes the petals, stem and leaves of a flower giving a sense of the plant and its immediate environment.
Details: This could be a close-up of a plant or an abstract detail from a garden. This category is a great opportunity to show creativity and originality by selecting a unique perspective of plants or gardens.
Gardens: Photographs of gardens and garden views. This could range from a pot on a windowsill to a sweeping panorama. It might be your own garden, one of the RHS Gardens or a garden you’ve visited on holiday.
Seasons: Photographs illustrating the different seasons of the year. This might be a bright spring morning, a hot summer border, autumnal leaves or a snowy winter scene. The images should capture the essence of a particular season, not just by the plants growing, but by the light, the mood and atmosphere.
Wildlife: Photographs of insects, birds and creatures found wild in the garden throughout the year.
People: Photographs of gardeners or of people enjoying a garden. Perhaps someone working in the garden, kicking back and relaxing or simply a portrait of someone in a garden.
Young Photographer (age 11-17): A maximum of five photos can be entered depicting anything garden related that catches your eye.
Children’s Photographer (under 11): A maximum of five photos can be entered depicting anything that interests you in your garden.
The Medici Cards Award: The Medici Cards Award will be decided from all competition entries, and will be presented to the photographer who submits the image best suited for reproduction as a greetings card.
Contest Prize & TERMS
Adult: First prize £350, Second prize £200, Third prize £100
Children and Young Photographers (under 18): First prize: £100 Wex Photographic vouchers, Second prize: £50 Wex Photographic vouchers, Third prize: £25 Wex Photographic vouchers
The Medici Cards Award: The image will be published by Medici Cards as a greetings card. The photographer will be credited and will receive 200 copies of their card. ELIGIBILITY: Open to All Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.
COPYRIGHT: By submitting images you confirm that you are the copyright holder and creator of the image and that you will be responsible for any claims made by any third party. Copyright will remain with the photographer USAGE RIGHTS: By entering this competition the photographer/entrant agrees to the RHS using the images for possible exhibition, publication or promotional use. Medici Cards has the option to publish the prize winning entries as part of the RHS Greeting Card Range, and will contact the prize winners accordingly. Prize winners will receive full photographer’s credit from Medici Cards.
