The Dark Side Photography Exhibition

The Dark Side Photography Exhibition

The jazzy neon glow of a motel sign… the silver hush of a moonlit landscape… the hollow loneliness of deserted city street lamps… the raucous revelry of a nightclub at midnight…. NIGHT holds a special place in the heart of photography. The geometry of light and shadow creates an interplay of mystery, possibility, and the foreboding that accompanies paths of the unknown.

This October, as Halloween looms large on the horizon, 1650 invites you to visit THE DARK SIDE: a juried exhibition of Night Photography. Photographic greats such as Brassai, George Tice, Peter Hujar, Weegee and Robert Brook are just a few examples of those who have contributed great works in the genre of night photography. This month, at 1650, it is your turn. Approx fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos. The opening night reception is on Halloween night in Echo Park. Halloween costumes at the opening party are highly encouraged for photo opportunities.

Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: AWARDS: Best In Show, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be awarded and posted online after the show opening. Award winning photos will be featured on the show page and Best In Show winners will have a small portfolio of their work (up to 10 images) featured in our 1650 Spotlight gallery of photographic excellence.

All Awards winners will also be featured in our 1650 Gallery newsletter, which is broadcast via email to our mailing list. Getting the word out about artists we're excited about helps you do more great work, helps us show more great work, and helps keep the often insular world of fine art photography more diverse and vibrant.
