The 2012 Refuge Photo Contest
The National Wildlife Refuge System has no equal when it comes to conserving our nation’s rich wildlife heritage. The over 550 refuges are home to more than 700 bird species, 220 mammal species, 250 reptile and amphibian species, and over 200 species of fish. Such a diverse array of wildlife means that the Refuge System contains both rare and common types of habitat — everything from southwest desert to arctic tundra. For 40 million visitors each year, refuges provide a welcome retreat to natural surroundings. That’s why we are pleased to host this digital photography contest devoted to our national wildlife refuges.
Images must be taken on national wildlife refuges and can feature birds, mammals, insects, fish, other animals, plants, people, or refuge scenery. In short, we welcome images of almost any sight taken at a national wildlife refuge.
Contest Prize & TERMS
Second prize: A set binoculars courtesy of Eagle Optics and A waterproof backpack courtesy of Orvis (“ARV”: $758)
Third prize: A set binoculars courtesy of Eagle Optics (“ARV”: $549).
Fourth prize: A birdfeeder courtesy of Wild Bird Centers of America (“ARV”: $60).
Five honorable mention prizes: A birdfeeder courtesy of Wild Bird Centers of America, An Audubon Birds Mobile Field Guide App for iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad courtesy of NatureShare (“ARV”: $55).
All photographers submitting an entry will receive a complimentary one year membership in the National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA ELIGIBILITY: US / 18+ Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.
COPYRIGHT: Photographs will be accepted only from the original photographer who must be the sole author and the owner of the copyright for photos submitted. Photographers retain ownership of all copyrights. USAGE RIGHTS: By submitting an image for entry in this contest, you automatically give NWRA permission and rights to store, display, and use the image, its thumbnails, and your name as the photographer, indefinitely in any media without notification or compensation.
All entries selected for inclusion in the NWRA Refuge Image Library will be published online in a searchable image gallery.
A print quality copy of any image chosen for the Refuge Image Library may be used, with appropriate attribution, in NWRA publications (such as newsletters or reports) without further notification.
Images will remain in NWRA’s Refuge Image Library indefinitely.
