Scenes of Summer Photo Contest
Contestants will submit three (3) photographs forming a portfolio that best represents the title of the contest. The contest will be open to the first 750 entries. The entry fee will be $10. Only one entry per contestant will be allowed. You can submit photos after you pay your entry fee.
The three photographs that you submit must be as a portfolio, representing the title of the contest, “Scenes of Summer”. Only JPEG (.jpg) digital images will be accepted. All digital files must less than 1Mb when JPEG compressed. Modifications to the photographs, such as burn and dodge, color correction, or cropping are permitted. No nude images will be accepted.
Each set of three photographs will be judged separately by our distinguished panel of judges (whose qualifications are described below). All photographs must be received by 12pm PST, September 8, 2009. After uploading your photographs, you will have until this date to remove and replace any of your uploaded photographs.
Model Releases will be required for any person appearing in any photograph under the age of majority in their state, signed by their parent or legal guardian. The releases will be required prior to publishing any photographs on our web site, by October 30, 2009.
Story Telling is where a photograph, absent any captions, is able to describe an actual story or elicit the viewer into creating a story about the photo through the viewer’s imagination.
Emotional Impact within a photograph is the ability to move the viewer at the deepest levels.
Originality is the photograph’s ability to show mundane or familiar things in life in a new and innovative manner.
Technical Excellence is where the photograph was taken with complete perfection from a standpoint of technical elements, such as composition, color, exposure, focus, etc.
Visual Balance is where the overall impact of the photograph matches the subject and “makes sense”. It is where breaking the conventional photography rules leads to a better photograph.
Contest JudgingThe contest judging will be done in two rounds of evaluation. In round one, our three judge’s panel of photographic experts will select ten (10) finalist entries. The entries selected in round one will proceed to round two. In round two, the judges will collectively select a First Place, Second Place and Third Place Winner. There will be no ties. Winners will be chosen on or around October 15, 2009, and notified by email by October 30, 2009. The winner’s names and their portfolios will be available for viewing on the contest web site on October 30, 2009. Decisions of the judges are final and binding.
Judges The judges for this contest will be selected from our Council of Photographers. At least two of the judges will not be members of the staff of WeArePhotographers.com. The judges for this contest will be Gary Fong, Genesis Photo Agency, former Dir. Of Photography, SF Chronicle, Pulitzer Prize Jurist, Photography, Kim Komenich, Asst. Prof. Multimedia, SJSU, formerly Staff Photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle and winner of a Pulitzer Prize in Photojournalism and Tom Kennedy, Kennedy Media, former AME Washington Post Online, Director of Photography, National Geographic Magazine.
Contest Prize & TERMS
COPYRIGHT: By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable perpetual, non exclusive license to WeArePhotographers.com or their assignees, to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of the entries (along with name credit) in connection with future Contests and promotion of future Contests and our web site. None of the photographs entered in the contest will be sold or distributed to a third party without the written consent of the entrant and completion of an agreement for royalty payments to the entrant.
