Saol na nGael (the Life of the Gael) Photo Contest
The competition is for either colour or monochrome photographs depicting any aspect of the life of speakers of Scottish or Irish Gaelic or of the life of the Scottish Gaidhealtachd/Irish Gaeltacht.The competition is open to all amateur photographers. You do not need to be a resident of the Gaidhealtachd/Gaeltacht nor be a Gàidhlig/Gaeilge speaker to enter.
All entries must be submitted in a digital format but can be digital or film captures. To ensure sufficient resolution for exhibition display purposes photographs must be a minimum resolution of 2500 x 1900 pixels taken by a 5MP camera or higher.
Each photograph MUST be accompanied by a brief title or caption in Gàidhlig/Gaeilge but will NOT be judged on their Gàidhlig/Gaeilge usage.
Each entrant must fill in an online registration form on the Colmcille website. There is no limit to the number of images submitted per applicant but an entry form MUST be completed for each entrant.
Any participants without an entry form will be automatically disqualified.
Please include where the photograph was taken in the description.
It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that all the necessary permissions are obtained from people featured in a photograph. All photographs must be entirely the owner’s work.
Photographs must be submitted by 6pm Monday 31st August 2009.
Colmcille cannot accept responsibility for loss or delay to entries.
All submissions are subject to Flickr’s terms of service (http://www.flickr.com/terms.gne)
Entrants under 13 years should have an adult submit photos via Flickr on their behalf or submit them by email after filling in an entry form.
The winning entries will be chosen by judges appointed by Colmcille. The judges’ decision is final. Winners will be notified by post, telephone or email and the prizes will be awarded at an expenses-paid trip (UK & Republic of Ireland only) to the prize-giving ceremony. Details of the winners will be widely publicised.
Employees or Board Members of Colmcille, Foras na Gaeilge, Bòrd na Gàidhlig or any members of their families are ineligible to enter.
Prize-winners may be required to supply a short description/explanation of their image and where/when it was taken for exhibition purposes.

HOW TO ENTER:
1. Sign up for your own free Flickr account at www.flickr.com.
2. Go to www.colmcille.net/photo-competition.html and fill in an entry form including your Flickr user name, email address and telephone no. (you only need to fill in an entry form once per year regardless of how many photos you choose to add). Please do not change your Flickr user name during the competition or we may not be able to identify your entries. Last year’s entrants must also fill in a new entry form to qualify for this year’s competition.
3. Upload your photos to your Flickr account.
4. Join the Saol na nGael Flickr group www.flickr.com/groups/saolnangael and add the photos you wish to enter to the contest, complete with title or caption in Gàidhlig/Gáeilge. Please also say where the photo was taken in the description box.
NOTE: If you prefer not to create your own Flickr account to submit photos you can instead fill in an entry form as above and then simply email your photo(s), with your name, photo title etc. to [email protected] and they will be added through the Saol na nGael Flickr account. Only 1 photo should be attached per email. Your photos should appear in the Saol na nGael competition pool within 24 hours.
Contest Prize & TERMS
COPYRIGHT: Colmcille retains the right to use winning images for the future promotion of the organisation and shortlisted images for display in connection with the competition. Colmcille will use selected images for promoting the event. Colmcille may publish a calendar and other merchandise in connection with this competition. Some of these items of merchandise may be reprinted. No fees will be payable for this or any future reprints of this merchandise but all photographers will retain full copyright of their images and will be credited for their work. This may be done in Gàidhlig, Gaeilge or English. This may include display on the Colmcille website, in a public exhibitions or other means.
