Remote Medicine Photography Competition 2014

Remote Medicine Photography Competition 2014 The Institute of Remote Healthcare has teamed up with Adventure Medic, trauma specialists MDD and SWMUK for our the Remote Medicine Photography Competition 2014. We are looking for striking digital photographs to celebrate medics working in remote environments with a great prize for the best image, provided by MDD. There will also be an additional prize for the best student entry.

You do not have to be a medic to enter the competition.

The organisers are looking for original images that showcase the wide range of medical roles and environments in which remote medics work. This can include (but is not at all limited to) expedition medicine and wilderness medicine, mountain medicine, ski medicine, remote and offshore work.

They are also interested in unusual photographs of medical interventions, training or simulation. Remember that patient confidentiality must be respected, and that images should be appropriate for dissemination to a worldwide audience.

Please do not include photographs of patients who have not given written consent for the promulgation of their inclusion in the photograph, or organisations, logos or photographs which include commercial or sensitive locations which have not been approved by companies, organisations or governmental property. If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to The IRHC upon request. Entrants must not submit images that involve human nudity, the wilful harassment of wildlife, damage to the environment by the photographer, put any individual or animal in danger, or infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimisation (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, colour and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. Smartphone images, black and white conversions and multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single ‘High Dynamic Range’ image are acceptable. Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged at the judging panel’s sole discretion.
Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image, the location the image was taken, and the name of the photographer(s).
