Description:
“Night does not show things, it suggests them. It disturbs and surprises us with its strangeness. It liberates forces within us which are dominated by our reason during the daytime.” ― Brassai

Spanning two centuries, the magic of night photography has captured the collective imagination of the masses. From the infamously long exposures required by early artists to high-speed color film and the advent of digital technology, the light at night has inspired an explosion of interest among contemporary artists. Natural vistas, celestial bodies, urban landscapes, artificial structures, and nocturnal interludes represent but a few of the limitless subjects of nighttime photography.

Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic works that explore the fundamental qualities that make night photography – from dusk to dawn – a compelling contemporary art form. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

JUROR | WENDI SCHNEIDER
Wendi Schneider is a Denver-based visual artist illuminating impressions of grace and serenity in the natural world with photography and precious metals. Inspired by a background in painting, art history, her collection of turn-of-the-twentieth century photographs, and the lush beauty of Memphis, New Orleans and New York, she began painting on photographs in the early ‘80s and applying gold leaf to translucent prints for her ongoing ‘States of Grace’ series in 2012. Her work has been honored and exhibited internationally and is held in permanent collections at New Orleans Museum of Art, Memphis Brooks Museum, Center For Creative Photography, and Auburn University Library, among others. She is represented by A Gallery For Fine Photography (New Orleans); Arnika Dawkins Gallery (Atlanta); Catherine Couturier Gallery (Houston), Galeria PhotoGraphic (San Miguel de Allende); Rick Wester Fine Art (New York); and Vision Gallery (Jerusalem).

ACCEPTANCE | AWARDS
Up to seventy-four images will be selected by the juror for exhibition at Praxis Gallery. A Juror’s Choice, three Honorable Mentions, and a Director’s Choice will be awarded and featured in the exhibition, the printed show catalog, and the online exhibit gallery. Juror’s Choice will receive free entry into three juried calls for entry of their choice and a complimentary exhibit book. Directors Choice will receive free entry into two juried calls for entry of their choice.

Description:
Macro photography is all about showcasing a subject larger than it is in real life — an extreme close-up of something small. Photography is always a matter of perspective. “It’s an alien world when you get into the macro level.” – Ben Long.

Macro photography challenges the photographer to capture the minute, granular details of a world that generally escapes our daily attention: this can include insects, plants, natural and human produced details of any and every subject matter in the world around us – from the texture of feathers to the geometric labyrinth of a microchip board.

Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that transforms the miniature into the larger than life, images that showcase the unseen and overlooked, and tiny moments of beauty presented through a magnified perspective. All genres, capture types, color and black & white, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

CURATOR | PRAXIS DIRECTORS
Program Director Ross Anderson is an award-winning fine art photographer and filmmaker. Gallery and Installationist Director Jonathan Pavlica is the Praxis Print & Color Artist, Photo Editor, and installationist. Project Director Sarah Weiss is an artist, educator, and co-founder of CollabArts Twin Cities.

ACCEPTANCE | AWARDS
Up to 36 Images will be selected by the juror for exhibition at Praxis Gallery. One Curator’s Choice and three Honorable Mentions will be awarded and featured in the exhibition, the printed show catalog, and the online exhibit gallery. Curator’s Choice will receive free entry into three juried calls for entry of their choice and a complimentary exhibit book.

ENTRY FEE | $35.00
$35.00 for submission set of 5 images. $5.00 for each additional image. Praxis Members receive 10 images for the price of 5 images. ELIGIBILITY
International, all accepted.

COPYRIGHT & USAGE RIGHTS
Artist retains all copyrights to their own images. The artist’s name and photo title will be included wherever the photographs are displayed. Artists whose photographs are accepted for exhibition grant Praxis Gallery the nonexclusive right to use, print, and reproduce submitted digital files for the purpose of the exhibition, promoting the artist, promoting related programs and subsequent display on Praxis Gallery’s website, social media and online exhibition archives.
