Portfolio Reviews Belgrade Photo Month 2018

PORTFOLIO REVIEW ─ OPEN CALL

For the 3rd edition of Belgrade Photo Month festival we have prepared one session of Portfolio Reviews. There will be 5 reviewers and each one will work with 8 applicants (20 minutes per candidate). The reviews will be of printed photographs.

The Portfolio Review will take place on 1st April from 10am.

The general public are invited to view the portfolios of the applicants from 15h on the same day.

Conditions of Entry

Applicants should read the information about Curators/Reviewers here, to find out more about the individual curators for this year’s Portfolio Review and choose the one that you feel would be most suitable for reviewing your portfolio.

Participation fee is 20 Eur and you can apply to 3 different reviewers

What to send
One PDF which includes a short CV and portfolio of no more than 11 pages (images 72 dpi). The CV has to be written in English.
You can submit an application upto 3 Reviewers, but please send an individual email for each one.

The deadline for submission of applications is 28th February at midnight CET. The final selection of artists will be made by each Reviewer. The accepted applicants will hear back from us confirming their participation by 5th March at the latest.

Curators Reviewers

IVANA TOMANOVIĆ MA, is an associate professor at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad and the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, where she teaches photography at the Department of Fine Arts – study program photography.
Ivana regularly lectures on the visual aesthetics of photography and she has participated in numerous panel discussions at various festivals, workshops and conferences dedicated to photography and the visual arts. For 14 years she was editor of a magazine for the culture of photography – ReFoto, Belgrade, where she has published over three hundred articles. Ivana has also written numerous texts for exhibition catalogues, books and newspapers. She has been a selector and organiser of numerous photographic exhibitions, editor of the photo-monograph DragoljubTošić – Photographs, collaborated on the development of two books on photography and judged numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. She has organised photographic workshops and lectures; was a board member of the Fair photos in the Gallery Artget of Belgrade Cultural Centre and member of the national selection committee of the festival Rovinj Photodays.
During 2016 she worked as Art director at Artget, Belgrade.

NATASHA CHRISTIA is an independent writer, curator and educator based in Barcelona. She is also a collection consultant and a dealer specialised in fine art photography and photobooks. Her research focuses on the exploration and reinvention of dominant narratives through a novel reading of archival collections, the intersection of photography, film and the photobook, the dialogue between 20th century avant-garde photography and contemporary forms of expression often labelled as post-photography.
She was recently the Guest Editor at the Read or Die publishing fair in Barcelona during November 2015 and Curator of DocField Documentary Photography Festival, which took place during May and July 2016, entitled: Europe: Lost in Translation.

VICENÇ BONED is a collector of photography based in Barcelona. The collection comprises of 500 prints and more than 1000 photobooks. He founded Galeria Tagomago in Barcelona and Paris dedicated exclusively to contemporary photography. He has been attending many photo festivals in the last 15 years as portfolio reviewer and curator of some exhibitions.

VOLKAN KIZILTUNÇ is a Turkish artist working in between still and moving image. He studied archeology and photography and now an an academic in photography department in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He was the co-founder of a non-profit artist run space initiated between 2015-2017 and recently he’s the founder of NOKS Independent Art Space focuses on photography, photobooks and video projects. He’s a member of FUAM, Photography Research & Applications Center and also the coordinator of Istanbul Photobook Festival. His academic research areas focus on Conceptional Documentary, New Objectivity and Deadpan Photography. And his works focus on time, reconstruction, transformation, observation, memory, typologies and voyeurism.
His works exhibited in ESSL Contemporary Art Museum, TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art, Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art, MAS Museum, TORUN Museum of Contemporary Art, Taiwan Biennale, Istanbul Modern and recenlty Sinop Biannale.

LAURE MAUGEAIS (Chamonix, 1980) is a photographer and artistic director of SHOOT! photo festival based in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France.
As an author, she undertakes visual creation projects, assuring rigorous work, firmly rooted in the present. Her work focuses mainly on the concepts of identity and territory and how they are a mirror to each other.
As a pedagogue she accompanies the public to discover or deepen their knowledge in photography. She has created Image Temps, a visual education, NGO in the Chamonix valley.
As the artistic director of the biennial photo festival SHOOT!, and as curator of exhibitions she has developed scenographic skills.
