Picturing the World Family Photo Contest
Picturing the World Family is a call to action from photographers (professional, non-professional & students) to submit a portfolio of images (a coherent photo essay – maximum 5 images) that showcases the landscape of contemporary family lives and relationships as they exist across the World today.
Where Picturing the World Family differs from Steichen’s Family of Man exhibition, is that it uses the power of the photo-essay (portfolio) to tell a story, rather than using single images and themes (related to personal life experiences), from which to tell a story.
It is an opportunity for each selected photographer to receive recognition and exposure through being published in an international online gallery, and in the Picturing the World Family Portfolio Book Series.
Three cash grants will be awarded to a photographer from each category who best demonstrates photographic excellence, and shown that they have engaged deeply with the theme of contemporary family lives and relationships, rather than just documenting or recording their chosen families.
In addition to the three photographers awarded from each category, a further 22 photographers portfolios (photo-essays – maximum of 5 images) will be selected for an online exhibition, and book publication. With selection for this exhibition, featured artist’s work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants, and other advocates of fine art and social documentary photography. Each participant will be included in the FIER Institute’s Online Gallery Exhibition as well as published in the Picturing the World Family Portfolio Book Series.

Submissions open: November 22nd, 2012, Submissions close: May 1st, 2013, Notice of Awards: June 30th, 2013, Online Exhibition: August 1st, 2013
Juror’s: The juror’s will also select one portfolio (photo-essay) to be the first presented in the book and will select an image from the portfolio to be the book cover. Juror’s for this submission season are: Reid Callanan, Larry Padgett, and Dawne Fahey.

COPYRIGHT: All photographers retain copyright ownership of their images. USAGE RIGHTS: By submission for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant FIER Institute the right to use their images for the purpose of marketing and promoting the Institute's programs and subsequent display on the Institute's Gallery website of past exhibitions. Artists grant the use of their image(s) to be displayed as stated, without further contact or compensation from the Institute. All artist's selected as awardees, or for the online exhibiton, and book publication, will be recognised as the author of the work.
