Nurture forests for the future Photo Contest
The objective of this photo contest is to create awareness worldwide of the meaning behind Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) and its linkages to food security. The contest will harness photo talent from around the world in order to illustrate and convey the many linkages between REDD+ and Food. Photographers can submit individual photos inspired by the theme: Nurture forests for the future -Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) for Food Security.
In particular, the image should depict one or more of the following topics:
o Farmers producing more on less land using agro-ecosystems and thus avoiding clearance of new forest.
o Good agricultural practices such as: agroforestry, alley cropping, agrosilvipastoral, inter cropping of trees and crops, trees produced on farms, tree apiculture, trees on pasture, etc
o Protected areas, forest reserves, conservation
o Forest dependent people in forest ecosystems, especially women and indigenous peoples
o Trees as suppliers of fruits, edible leaves, nuts, medicine, etc
o Livelihoods diversification and good land management.
The selection will be based on the following criteria:
o Clear relationship and relevance of the subject of the photo to between the photo and the theme of the contest “Nurture forests for the future – REDD+ for FOOD”
o Originality, creativity, clarity and overall impact
o Good composition, focus of photo, aesthetics and technical excellence
Contest Prize & TERMS
The best 25 photos selected will be showcased in FAO headquarters’ in Rome, Italy in occasion of the International Conference on Forests for Food Security and Nutrition from 13-15 May 2013 ELIGIBILITY: Open to all / 18+ Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.
