North East Wildlife Photography Competition 2014

North East Wildlife Photography Competition Following the success of last year’s North East Wildlife Photography Competition, Northumberland, Durham and Tees Valley Wildlife Trusts have again joined forces with the Natural History Society of Northumbria, the Great North Museum: Hancock and Hawk’s Head Photography Wildlife Photography Workshops to launch the 2014 competition. We want you to show us the best of the region’s wildlife! A maximum of six photographs can be submitted across all categories. It doesn’t matter where you live but photos must be taken in the north-east of England in the areas covered by the Northumberland, Durham and Tees Valley Wildlife Trusts.


Wildlife portraits – photos that capture the character, essence or traits of a species
Wildlife in action – photos that capture interesting, funny or amazing behaviour
Wildlife in the landscape – photos that show wildlife in its habitat, landscape or setting
Botanical – photos of plants, fungi and lichens
Young person’s – photos of wildlife or plants taken by anyone aged 16 or under
Art in nature – photos of flora and fauna that are composed for artistic effect

Photographs must have been taken in the geographical areas covered by the Durham, Northumberland and Teesside Wildlife Trusts.

Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: The Overall Winner's prize is given to the photographer whose photograph is judged to be the most outstanding and memorable of all the entries. They will be awarded a first prize of £250 (in addition to their prize of category winner) and a framed A3 print of their photograph produced by DIGITALAB professional photo lab.

Bird Watching Magazine have donated a subscription to their best-selling bird magazine, with all the latest bird news, expert binocular and spotting scope reviews, birding events local to you, competitions and lots of great offers.

Hawk's Head Photography have kindly offered two wildlife photography workshop prizes. Adult winners will receive a workshop on 'Farne Islands Puffins and Seabirds - Wildlife Behaviour and Wildlife Portraits', and the Young Person's winner will take part in a 'Birds of Prey' workshop.

Immediate Media Company have offered three, one year subscriptions to BBC Wildlife Magazine

Kielder Water and Forest Park have donated a voucher entitling 2 adults to a complimentary meal (main course only) at the Boat Inn Restaurant at Leaplish Waterside Park.

Naturetrek (Birdwatching, botanical and natural history holidays) have donated a £250 voucher to spend on one of their wildlife breaks.

Newcastle College have kindly offered to turn the winning photographs into canvasses.

Northern Experience and Wildlife Tours have donated a bespoke photography workshop.

Opticron are kindly donating binocular prizes.

Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours have donated a two person Sail around and Inner Farne Landing trip.

Speyside Wildlife have donated a voucher for a visit to one of their wildlife hides.

West Country Wildlife Photography Centre have offered a free place on a photography workshop.

Winners and runners up of each of the individual competition categories will also receive great prizes from our sponsors and a certificate.

Winners and runners-up will be announced at an awards event that will take place at the Great North Museum: Hancock in July 2014.

The winning pictures and best entries will be displayed in the Great North Museum: Hancock (Newcastle upon Tyne) during July-Sept 2014. After this some of the pictures will tour to other venues across the North East and could be on display for several years.

The winning entries will also be displayed on the organisers' websites and may also be featured in the regional press and media. ELIGIBILITY: UK

COPYRIGHT: By submitting images to the competition, each entrant guarantees that:
they are the owner of each image and that it is their original work;
they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image;
they have the permission of any person pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by the organisers;
they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by the organisers.
Entrants retain the copyright to images submitted.
USAGE RIGHTS: By entering the competition, each entrant grants the organisers a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose directly connected with the competition. This may include, but is not limited to: exhibition displays; use on websites; for use in press releases giving information about the competition.

Entrants agree that the organisers can provide images to the media for reproduction in connection with the competition and exhibition only.

The organisers will make a reasonable effort to ensure that name credits are given to any photograph published in any medium but we cannot guarantee this.

Free use of any photograph submitted to the competition will not be permitted by the organisers outside of the scope of the competition and exhibition. However the organisers may contact you after the competition about the future use of images submitted to the competition.
