National Insect Week 2014 Insect Photo Contest

National Insect Week 2014 Insect Photo Contest To take part in the National Insect Week 2014 Insect Photo Contest, all you have to do is to take photographs of an insect or a group of insects, within the general NIW 2014 theme of ‘Little Things That Run The World’, and send them to us as prints. Competitors may submit up to three entries in each of two subject Categories (i.e. up to six entries per person in total).

The two subject Categories for the prizes, sponsored by the Royal Entomological Society, are:

Insects Alive!

Photographs of live insects in their normal environment playing their part in “running the world” – feeding, flying, walking, burrowing, fighting, searching, preying, parasitising, mating, egg-laying, moulting, etc; and photographs of insect swarms or other aggregations belong in this category.

Small Is Beautiful

Photographs that ‘get up close and personal’ with the “little things” that run the world (as long as they’re insects) – close-up views of individual insects, from the not-so-small (such as dragonflies and stag-beetles) to the tiny (like midges and greenflies); or extreme close-ups of insect eyes or other body parts.
