National Geographic Traveller Photo Contest 2014

National Geographic Traveller Photo Contest 2014 We’re once again on the the lookout for your vision of the world through a lens with the National Geographic Traveller Photo Contest 2014. Last year we received thousands of UK entries and were truly impressed at the incredibly high standard of submissions. This year we’re back with more great prizes, new judges and fresh categories.
You can enter photographs under one of six categories:

Action:Timing is key with an action shot and with timing comes patience. Whether fun, quirky or surprising, your image should capture the spirit of adventure, however big or small the challenge, whether undertaken by a mountain biker or a moth.

City: There’s plenty of scope for this image, whether it’s an interesting skyline, a bustling bazaar or an architectural wonder. Think about a sense of atmosphere, as well as the smells and the sounds and how best to capture the personality of a particular urban centre.

Iconic: An icon could be a famous monument, building or structure, but it could also be something less obvious that represents a culture or country. Your image should capture something that represents a way of life

Modern: The modern world surrounds us, from the buildings we live in to the technology we rely on everyday, but your image doesn’t have to just capture a glass and steel skyscraper. It could also look at something that’s modern in relation to its surroundings, or capture the ways in which modern life intertwines with the ancient.

Natural: Your shot could focus on wildlife, exotic plant life or even an interesting tree on your travels. our natural world has shaped our environment and created some of the most bizarre and breathtaking details from ball lightening to bald eagles. We’ll be looking for shots that embody interesting interpretations of the natural world.

People: Meet the locals and capture the essence of a country or city through the people who epitomise it. You may choose to shoot an intriguing individual or a cluster of faces. Think about their character, surroundings, facial expressions and a sense of their culture

The Judges:  The independent judging panel consists of Carol Enquist, National Geographic’s photo editor; Paul Goldstein, a wildlife photographer & regular contributor to National Geographic Traveller (UK); and travel photographer Richard James Taylor
