Monochrome
Monochrome photography is commonly associated with black and white images. However, throughout the history of photography, other tones such as sepia and cyan have also been utilized. Today, there exist numerous examples of monochromatic images that derive their photographic qualities from the tonal range of a single colour. While monochromacity was once a technological constraint, it has now become more of an artistic choice. Photographers may opt for working with the shades of a single colour for compositional or expressive reasons, and their decision should be interpreted accordingly. Our appreciation of contemporary monochromatic images is rooted in the understanding that the lack of colour range holds significance and meaning, instead of being a mere technological limitation.
