Travel photography is the focus for this juried group show at Black Box Gallery. When we are traveling we are always documenting our memories of the people, places and things that we encounter on our trips. Tourists experience adventures familiar and foreign, exotic and mundane, vacations near and far, discovering foods, visiting family and friends, exploring cultures, relaxing beaches, wild sunsets and traversing mountains all are part of our visual understanding of telling our travel stories.

Juror: Ethan Jackson

Ethan Jackson is a visual artist working in optical installation, photographic and interactive media. He received his MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995. Since then he has taught at various institutions in the US and has shown work in a variety of venues both across the US and in Europe. In his work he explores interests in such subjects as the various aspects of landscape representation and the notion of ‘place’; the nature and history of the illusion of space from painting to lens-based representation. Current projects are camera-obscura based transformations of architectural space into illuminated, contemplative environments. He is based in Portland, Oregon.

Black Box offers free framing, matting and printing for our exhibitions. The photographers who are selected into the exhibition by the juror will provide a high resolution Tiff or JPEG file for our gallery to print. If the photographer prefers, they can send in framed work or prints that we can frame for the exhibition.

We have 18” x 24” black frames. Our white mats are pre cut for 12” x 18”, 12” x 12” and 12” x 16” prints (we also have a few other odd sized matts). We print on an Epson Stylus Pro archival ink jet printer, on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper, in a color-calibrated environment. This is a very accurate custom print, just like a custom lab would print, we have over 20 years of custom printing experience.

All exhibition prints will be kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion for the photographer, unless the photographer makes other arrangements. This will allow the gallery to further promote our photographers and exhibitions to collectors, curators, critics and to the general public. Black Box will return ship the exhibition print to artist if preferred.
