How to Get Organized and Stay Motivated in 2017February 17, 2017
We may be over a few weeks into the New Year by now, but do you feel as though 2017 snuck up on you as quick as ever and that you’re still stuck in that festive season state of mind?
It’s hard to get motivated and return to your daily routine after having time off over the Christmas and New Year period, so today we’ve rounded up some simple tips teaching you how to get organized and feel more inspired than ever before.
Make it a Date
It might not be hard to keep up with what day it is, but we all struggle from time-to-time keeping on top of the date, along with any other important events or deadlines that come with it.
The most important suggestion to help you combat this would be to buy a 2017 calendar – but not just any one. Calendars offering a month-at-a-glance is a fantastic solution, especially when the layout involves boxes for each day that are large enough to write important notes in. You’ll want to jot-down birthdays, photography events, meetings, scheduled photo shoots, and project deadlines.
In addition to having a month-at-a-glance calendar, we also suggest that you buy an additional week-at-a-glance version. It can simply have the days Monday to Sunday written on it, along with columns containing ample space to write down a to-do list each day. This will certainly help you to keep on top of your work!
Tidy Your Space
We’re sure you’ll agree that it’s very difficult to get work done (or to even get into the right frame-of-mind for work) when your office or studio space looks like a messy nightmare. Not only does the space develop negative, stressful energy that makes you not want to spend time in it, but it also becomes very difficult to find the things you actually need for your work.
An organized space equals an organized mind and it’s much easier to stay motivated and work hard when you feel this way. Make a habit of tidying your workspace at the end of each day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. Trust us, it’ll make all the difference!
Equip Yourself with the Necessary Tools
How irritating is it when you have a great idea for a project, only to have to scramble around looking for a pen or piece of paper before the idea leaves your mind? Prevent this from happening in 2017 by ensuring that you have all of your necessary tools and equipment neatly stored within reach.
This ties-in with the previous point, but it’s quite easy to clean out your desk drawers and make sure that only relevant things you need for work are stored in there. It might be pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, diaries, or technological equipment such as cameras, external storage devices, and important cables.
Surround Yourself with Inspiration
One of the easiest and most fun ways to stay motivated for the year ahead is to surround your workspace with things that inspire you, such as posters, photos, and prints with motivational quotes on them. You could even create a moodboard that represents your vision, goals, and dreams for the months ahead.
Visual motivation is often the most effective, so ensure that these are in a space you look at every day, such as on the wall in front of your desk.
In today’s technology-savvy world, it’s safe to say that there’s an app for just about anything that might come to your mind. Some of the greatest apps are those that help us to stay organized and on top of our daily schedule.
Popular ones that come to mind include Evernote, Asana, and even the basic ‘reminder’ apps. Be sure to do your research first in order to find an app especially suited to your workflow and needs.
Assign Time for Emails
Did you know that checking and replying to emails is one area that takes up the most amount of time in people’s workdays? Often though, people use their inbox as a distraction and they can easily waste away valuable work time simply sifting through the promotional emails they’ve received.
In order to combat this productivity issue and regain proper time management, why not set aside half an hour in the morning and half an hour at the end of the day to respond to and send work-related emails? Be strict with yourself and set a timer, making sure that once the timer goes off, you swiftly move onto other important tasks for the day.
Treat your Computer like a Filing Cabinet
Just as your workspace should be organized in order to keep you motivated and on top of your game, so too should your computer! Be sure to organize your files effectively into folders, along with clear and concise file names so you instantly know what they are in just one glance. A computer that is in complete disarray will only confuse and irritate you further!
We hope each of the tips above have taught you how to get organized and stay motivated for 2017. Let’s make it the best year yet!
