FotoEvidence Book Award
Once a year the FotoEvidence Book Award will recognize a documentary project addressing a violation of human rights, a significant injustice, or an assault on human dignity. The selected project will be published in a book, as part of a series of FotoEvidence books dedicated to the work of photographers whose commitment and courage create an awareness of social injustice.
Contest Prize & TERMS
PRIZE DETAILS:
The winning photographer will have their project published as a FotoEvidence book.
In addition, one project may be selected for a $1000 support award. This award will be granted for continued work on a project or to a project that does not have enough material to justify a book. Recipients of the Support Award may apply for the FotoEvidence Book Award in the future. The Book Award and Support Award prize winners and three other projects will be exhibited on the FotoEvidence web site and at a gallery exhibition in New York City during the fall of 2011. COPYRIGHT: Photographers retain copyright to all material submitted to FotoEvidence. USAGE RIGHTS: By submitting photographs to FotoEvidence, the photographer grants to FotoEvidence the non-exclusive right to publish the photographs on the FotoEvidence web site and in promotional material in perpetuity without compensation. FotoEvidence will credit the photographer during any such use.
FotoEvidence may use the winning photographs and each winner’s name and photograph in any publicity or advertising relating to FotoEvidence Book Award competition or future promotions without compensation or approval
The Book Award winner(s) agree to make at least 100 images from his/her winning project available to FotoEvidence for publication as a FotoEvidence book.. The winner will sign a book contract granting FotoEvidence the rights to the published work in exchange for compensation that includes 20 free copies of the book and a royalty on net revenue from book sales.
The FotoEvidence Book Award winner and finalists agree to give FotoEvidence five (5) signed prints, chosen by FotoEvidence in collaboration with the winner, for its archives. Prints will be 11X14 inches or larger and will be produced at FotoEvidence’s expense.
In addition, FotoEvidence Book Award winner(s) and finalists agree that work selected by FotoEvidence may be used for an annual exhibition created or supported by FotoEvidence. Images for the exhibit will be chosen by FotoEvidence in collaboration with the photographer(s).
The Book Award winner also agrees that images from his/her winning project may be used for publicity and press purposes by FotoEvidence without compensation. Any such use by FotoEvidence will credit the photographer.
If any compensation is available for photographs by winners or finalists for use in press or publicity, FotoEvidence will forward those funds to the photographers as soon as they have been received, or will put the photographer directly in touch with the organization making payment.
