Food Porn: A Juried Photo Exhibition of Food Photography
Food has been glorified and demonized, deified and sanitized, but through it all food gets photographed — a lot! Second only to the female form as a favorite subject, food remains our constant companion and a sensory, perhaps even sensual, sidekick to our collective photographic psyche.
From the fine art photos of Edward Weston’s peppers and the frozen food portraits of Irving Penn, to the repressed sexuality of beer, spirits and soft drink photography in advertising, to the ubiquitous “serving suggestion” images of industrial product photography, or even the “eat me now” snapshots of food bloggers and Facebook, culinary photography surrounds us both literally and figuratively, and is, we feel, ripe for artistic exploration (exploitation?).
This Month, just in time for Thanksgiving (a food porn bacchanal if ever there was one!), 1650 welcomes your take on FOOD PORN: the frontiers of culinary photography.
So dust off your fruits, grains and vegetables, frost that mug of beer and once more try to set the correct exposure for that tricky “fried egg on a white plate” because FOOD PORN is underway!
