Focus for Survival is a celebration of Mother Nature through photography.
The competition is organised by conservation charity Explorers Against Extinction in partnership with Bradt Guides.
By sharing the story of your image you’ll be helping to raise awareness about vulnerable wildlife and at-risk wild spaces.
There are two categories – wildlife and wild spaces. Wildlife must be listed as Vulnerable, Endangered or Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List. Wild spaces can be any at-risk wild space e.g, coral reef, rainforest, wetland etc
Contest Prize & TERMS
All 26 photographers shortlisted receive complimentary one year membership to our Explorer Club.
All 26 are also eligible for our annual People’s Choice Award, an award voted for by the public.
The 26 images will also be part of a digital display at the charity's exhibition venues including [email protected] and the Royal Geographical Society, London this autumn;
Six finalists from the 26 will be selected for printing and exhibited at [email protected] South Bank London 17-28 November 2021. One will be awarded The Focus for Survival Photographer of the Year award at the Royal Geographical Society, London on 18 November 2021.

If image is selected as one of the 26 finalists we reserve the right to produce an agreed limited number of prints (6) to sell in aid of our campaign, as well as using the images for press and promotion. The photographer will be credited. For all entries we reserve the right to use the photos in association with the campaign digitally. In all cases the photographer retains all rights beyond these competition requirements. USAGE RIGHTS: Images are used to promote the beauty and colour of the natural world and to raise public awareness about threats posed by human activity for UK conservation charity Explorers Against Extinction. Small digital files of the images will be shared on our charity channels including but not limited to social media, and by the main sponsor Bradt Guides both during the 2021 campaign, and possibly in the future to promote subsequent campaigns. Shortlisted images will also be shared with press. The photographer will be credited when their image is used. The six finalists will have their images printed and framed (one exhibition print) and exhibited at exhibition venues this autumn (Sep-Nov 2021) including [email protected] in London. If the print is sold the proceeds will go to the Project Fund. The 26 finalists will be displayed in a digital exhibit at select exhibition venues and in an online gallery at explorersagainstextinction.co.uk. Up to 6 limited edition prints per shortlisted image may be produced for sale in aid of the charities Project Fund.
