The Constructed Image encapsulates a deliberate orchestration of visual elements to convey narratives, emotions, and artistic visions. This theme explores the intricate interplay of subject, composition, props, lighting, and environment in crafting captivating photographs, at any scale. Photographers construct meticulous scenes with purposeful backgrounds and thought-provoking poses, blurring the line between reality and imagination.

​Praxis seeks the submission of photographic art that showcases the power of constructed elements to shape evocative compositions that resonate with viewers on a profound level. All capture types, genres, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. Juried by Nicole Houff.

Through the visual representation of abandoned spaces, artifacts of history are at once new but decayed, ancient yet fresh. The past takes on new life in these forsaken, ruined, or empty spaces as we wonder, Who were the people who lived and worked here? What were their lives like? What were their stories? Where did they go?

Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that explores the visual and social significance of what’s left behind, when crumbling factories, derelict churches, private homes, and other empty places serve as the basis for creative investigation. All genres, capture types, color and black & white, traditional, and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. Juror Ross Anderson

Praxis Gallery continues its biennial small group exhibition open call featuring narrative based collections of photographic art limited to nine artists with four images each to the exhibited in The Lab Gallery at Praxis Photo Arts Center. The word Anthologies is derived from the Greek meaning “to gather, or collect”. In this precise sense Praxis Gallery seeks to explore the manner in which photographic artists gather and organize images into collections to creating meaning. However, this is not an exercise in sequencing images or linear chronologies; it is more an interpretive exploration of the interdependence of each image vis a vis the collective meaning of the group of images – indulging the viewer to extract their own subjectivities, searching for meaning out of collected images that may seem meandering, anfractuous and exclusionary – as much as they may also seem explicit and absolute in substance.
