Earth Through a Lens Photo Contest

ETAL_logo 300 by 200 pixels.jpg Earth Through a Lens Photographs Focused on a Sustainable Planet. “Earth Through a Lens” (ETAL) is a national juried photographic display held annually in Palm Springs and the Desert Cities to commemorate Earth Day.

The work of 30-50 finalists are displayed in outstanding public gallery space for the month of April. The images chosen will focus on beauty in the natural environment, the degradation of the environment by human activity, and attempts to reclaim or restore spoiled habitats. In sum, the photographs will highlight the importance of developing a sustainable environment.

The finalists will be asked to provide a print photograph to allow uniform framing of the work. Their photos, brief biosketch, description of the work, and contact information will be published in an exhibit catalog. Digital images will be displayed during the same time period at the California Museum of Photography. The three top photographs will be published in the April issue of Palm Sprngs Life magazine and cash prizes ranging from $500-$1500 will be awarded.

How to enter

Subcategories for submissions:

Photographs must be relevant to one of the following themes

(1) The natural environment: a. desert, b. water, c. mountains

(2) Human impact on the planet: a. consumption, b. destruction or degradation, c. restoration or renewal.

Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: $500-1500 for top 3 prize winners and photos published in Palm Springs Life magazine for all finalists- physical display (with sales opportunities) in Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage CA., digital display at California Museum of Photography, publication in show catalog. COPYRIGHT: Photographers will retain all rights to their images other than the specific usage rights noted below. USAGE RIGHTS: By entering, photographers hereby grant permission to the organizers of "Earth Through a Lens" to use electronic or print versions of the artwork for promotion of project and project goals without further consideration as long as reasonable steps are taken to limit distribution of these images. Methods such as posting of low resolution or watermarked versions of the artwork will be employed.
