COMPAS Photo and Visual Arts Competition 2014 COMPAS Photo and Visual Arts Competition 2014 is now accepting entries. The Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford has added an additional category to our annual photocompetion. We are looking for photos AND illustrations that depict the experience of human migration. Winning entries will be used on the COMPAS website, in our 2015 calendar and in other publications.

Centre on Migration, Policy, and Society (COMPAS) is an ESRC-funded Research Centre within the University of Oxford. Since 2003 COMPAS has established an international reputation for original research and policy relevance. It has undertaken a strategic programme of multi-disciplinary social scientific research, publication and dissemination, events, knowledge transfer and user engagement activities with a broad set of academic and non-academic users in the UK and abroad.

COMPAS research covers a spectrum of global migration processes and phenomena, from conditions in places of migrant origins, through to institutions and activities affecting mobility, to social and economic effects in receiving contexts. In particular, COMPAS has developed expertise in relation to migration and the labour market, and migration and urban change.

Under the Directorship of Professor Michael Keith, COMPAS currently has more than 18 research staff from a range of social science backgrounds and is actively involved in many national, European and international networks and projects.

COMPAS is based within the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography and maintains strong links with departments across the University of Oxford within the Social Sciences and Humanities Divisions.


Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: Prizes of £250 and £100 will be awarded to top entries in each category. Eight runners up will be awarded £50. ELIGIBILITY: Residents of the UK and Ireland aged 16 and over

COPYRIGHT: All entries must be the entrant's own original work and must not have been previously published elsewhere. Entrants warrant and undertake that photos submitted will not infringe intellectual property, privacy or any other rights of any third party. USAGE RIGHTS: In consideration of COMPAS agreeing to consider the entry, each entrant grants to COMPAS an irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license for the full period of copyright to publish or otherwise use the entry in so far as is relevant to this specific competition in any way and at any time and to sub-license such rights to any third-party. COMPAS will use reasonable efforts to assert the entrant's moral rights in the image. However COMPAS may cut, edit, crop or arrange the entry as it sees fit and shall be entitled to sub-license such right to third-parties.

For the avoidance of doubt, all rights in the images other than those granted to COMPAS above are retained by the entrant.
