Capturing the Capital Photo Contest
Sustrans in London has teamed up with Time Out for a fantastic photography competition open to adults, children and young people who visit, live, work or go to school in London. You are invited to send us images which sum up the journeys you make and the places you travel through. We’re especially keen to see photographs that show you getting out and about by foot or bike.
Whether you capture the capital through a classic shot or a happy snap we want to see the day-to-day journeys you make and to understand how you feel about them.
The places we take in as part of our everyday lives have a huge impact on our quality of life. For some the morning commute is an absolute joy whilst for others, the school run might ruin their day. Show us how you feel on your journeys. We want to see it all: the good, the bad, the incredible, and the downright ugly.
With mayoral elections around the corner here in the capital this is a great time for us to capture in photographs what London means to you. In our manifesto for the elections we call for a greater-Greater London and you can help us to better understand what that means (or what it doesn’t mean for that matter!).
Entries should provide an insight into your daily life and creatively express what it’s like for you to get around, the types of environments you experience, and your preferred modes of transport. Capture the things you see and the world you know. Whatever it is, take a photograph that encapsulates your commute or other everyday journey in the most imaginative and personal way.
We want to get a great range of images so we’re happy for you to send a digital photo or a scanned image. When deciding the size and compression of your image please bear in mind that your image will be judged on how we see it as a printed A4 document.
The judging panel is made up of a selection of people who bring a unique understanding of London life:
Katy Hallet: Art Director, Sustrans
Allyce Hibbert: Pictures Editor, Time Out
Vilhelm Oberg: Head of Sustainability, Policy Connect
Stephen Tate: Assistant Director Transport & Environment, GLA
Claire Dobbin: Senior Curator, London Transport Museum
Jon Bewley/Chandra Prasad: Photographers, Sustrans
If you’d like to, send us a location or a caption for your image – but please keep it under 100 words!
