BPM book 2022 Portfolio Review
PORTFOLIO REVIEW ─ OPEN CALL
For the 1st edition of BPM Book Festival, 2022, we have prepared one session of Portfolio Reviews, similar to those that occur during Belgrade Photo Month. There will be five reviewers and each one will work with six applicants (twenty minutes per candidate). The reviews will be of printed photographs. The Portfolio Review will take place from 10am on 20th May, 2022.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Applicants should read the information about the Curators/Reviewers here, to find out more about the individual curators for this year’s Portfolio Review, and choose the one that you feel would be most suitable for reviewing your portfolio. Participation is free.

WHAT TO SEND
One PDF which includes a short CV and portfolio of no more than eleven pages (images 72 dpi). The CV has to be written in English. You can submit your application to a maximum of three reviewers, but please send an individual email for each one.
The deadline for submission of applications is 24th April, 2022, at midnight CET. The accepted applicants will hear back from us confirming their participation by 28th April at the latest.

REVIEWERS
Gustavo Alemán
Gustavo is a photographer, editor and photography teacher.
He was part of the Omnivore Photo collective, with whom he published the collective book “AF” (2015), selected by the PhotoEspaña festival as one of the candidates for photography book of the year. In 2014, he founded the Fuego Books publishing house together with his sister Ángela. Fuego Books publishes photobooks by national and foreign authors and its emphasis is the dissemination of projects that are based on personal experience but also serve as reflection, opinion and criticism on contemporary reality. Fuego Books has published six books, in which national photographers such as Cristina de Middel (National Photography Award) and international photographers have collaborated. In 2021 he published “Mato Grosso” by the author Raquel Bravo, which was the winner of the Fotolibro <40 award from the Community of Madrid.
He is also the founder of Photobook Club Murcia and a member of the Underphoto Collective, with which he develops projects to disseminate contemporary photography such as Full Frame (talks with national photographers at the CENDEAC in Murcia) and Panorama (an open call to value the work of photographers linked to the Region of Murcia).

Tommaso Parrillo
Tommaso Parrillo is an Italian publisher and founder of Witty Books, a publishing house founded with the name of Witty Kiwi in 2012, that aims to promote photography and visual arts. In 2016 he was also co-founder of JEST, an independent space dedicated to enhancing culture and photography in Turin. He also teaches photography in institutions such as IED Torino, private schools and workshops.

Matej Sitar
Matej Sitar (1980) is an art photographer with a wide spectrum of interests. He has worked as an architectural photographer for different architects and magazines, publishes limited edition photo-books under his own brand “The Angry Bat”, organises the “Maribor Photobook Award”, presents photo-books by different authors on his The Angry Bat’s – Nice Photobooks blog and tries to exhibit regularly. Sitar currently lives and works in Maribor. His publishing house has so far produced eleven photobooks and he is a regular participant at photobook fairs and talks about photobooks at festivals. He was awarded the EMZIN price for his book “America, my way”, has received several artistic grants and the prestigious Essl Award for young contemporary artists (2009).

Dragan Pavlović
Dragan graduated in 1991 from the Department of Art Photography at the Faculty of Film and Television (FAMU), he also attended the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU) in Prague and earned a Master degree of Photography. He has been a member of ULUPUDS since 1991. He has participated in several collective photo exhibitions of the ULUPUDS Photographers’ Section. Recent solo exhibitions of his creative photography series are: “Autoreflection” in the small gallery of ULUPUDS in Belgrade (2014), “In the Kaleidoscope” at Artget gallery, KCB (2015), “Re-construction” at Gallery Čedomir Krstić in Pirot (2016) and “’Variations in Glass” at Singidunum gallery in Belgrade (2021). He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Media and Communications at Singidunum University and teaches photography in the Department of Digital Arts.

Branimir Karanović
Branimir Karanović (1950), emeritus Professor of the University of Arts from 2016, graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts, and then received his master’s degree from the graphic department of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. As a professor of photography, he teaches at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. The author’s exploration of photographic and graphic work, that started in the early 1970s, is based on the consistent examination and interpretation of current, and often marginalised, phenomena of modernity through the comparative exploitation of documentary photography and experiments in the field of graphic disciplines. The latest series of works, Recycling Two Squares, consists of digital graphics thematically related to images of urban life in which he explores the possibilities of combining and interpreting photography intended for printing with collage and three-dimensional applications.
