ANZANG Nature Photography

ANZANG logo with image.jpg (70 KB)ANZANG Nature Photography is focused on the unique natural heritage of the bioregion of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and the New Guinea region. The annual competition highlights this unique area by encouraging conservation and protection of the region’s native flora and fauna.

The categories are:
*Animal Behaviour – the subject(s) must be engaged in natural activity.
*Animal Portrait – the subject must be photographed close up, occupying at least 30% of the frame.
*Botanical – this may be a portrait or habitat shot.
*Underwater – this may be a portrait or habitat shot.
*Wilderness – the landscape or seascape must have minimal evidence of human interference.
*Threatened Species – the subject(s) may be photographed in any of the following ways: in portrait, engaged in natural activity, or in its natural habitat. All entries in this category (flora or fauna) must be verified by an official reference, valid for any of the previous five years prior to the date of close of entries. This can be obtained from the country’s state or federal government agency concerned with verifying the subject’s threatened, rare, vulnerable or endangered status.
*Black & White – the subject(s) must be chosen that would qualify for any of the first six categories. This category includes all monochrome photography including sepia-toned and infrared photographs.
*Interpretive – the subject(s) must be chosen that would qualify for categories 1 to 6. This category is designed for those photographers who wish to experiment graphically with their images.
*Our Impact – the image must depict human impact on the natural environment, be it terrestrial, marine or atmospheric. This impact may be negative or positive. The choice of subjects is broad, including any subject that would qualify for categories 1 to 6, or may extend beyond these to subjects relating to pollution and climate change.
*Junior – the entrant must be under 18 years of age at the date of close of entries. Entries must fit the criteria of any of the other nine categories. Junior photographers are welcome to enter in any of the other nine categories instead of the Junior category.

Up to four images may be entered in each of the ten categories. The judges will choose a winner and runner-up for each category. Entries not placed but of a particularly high standard will form the basis of the subsequent exhibition.

A prize will also be awarded to the photographer who enters the best portfolio of six or more entries.

The overall winner of the competition will be the photographer of the image judged the best of all images entered and will be named ANZANG Nature Photography Overall Winner.

Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: The ANZANG Nature Photography Overall Winner receives AU$5000 plus a certificate. A prize of AU$1000 plus a certificate will be awarded to each of the nine category winners with the runners-up receiving AU$450 plus a certificate. The Junior winner will receive AU$300 plus a certificate with the runner-up receiving AU$100 plus a certificate. A prize of AU$1000 plus a certificate will be awarded to the photographer who enters the best portfolio of six or more entries. A People's Choice Award of AU$500 will be awarded to the public's favourite photographer as voted during the exhibition at the South Australian Museum. ELIGIBILITY: All ages and nationalities accepted. COPYRIGHT: The entrant grants the South Australian Museum the right to free reproduction and exhibition of all shortlisted, prize-winning and highly commended images in all media, but only in association with promotion and publicity for this competition and exhibition. This includes the production of a touring exhibition and an exhibition publication in the form of a book or catalogue. Due photographic credit will be given. Any other image application will be undertaken only after consultation with the photographer.
