Africa in Focus – Wilderness Safaris Photographic Competition
Our Africa in Focus photo competition, in partnership with Olympus, allows all images taken anywhere on the continent are eligible for submission.
This year our winners will share in phenomenal safari prizes to the value of USD80 000.
Wilderness Safaris’ non-profit partner Children in the Wilderness is the beneficiary of this year’s competition. We are proud to help facilitate their programme teaching sustainable conservation through its leadership development and education of children in Africa

Contest Prize & TERMS
PRIZE DETAILS:
Wilderness Safaris Photographer or the Year
One overall winner will be chosen from across the four categories.
Prize
Win an all-expenses paid eight-night safari for two people sharing at a choice of three Wilderness Safaris Classic camps (Botswana, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe). Prizes include a private photographic guide, international flights (economy) to the destination country, as well as charter flights.
Total prize value: USD22 000.
Four Category Winners
We will select one winner for each of the four categories.
Prize
The category prize includes a four-night safari (Botswana, Namibia, Zambia or Zimbabwe), with charter flights to and from the camp included.
Total prize value: USD10 000.
Young Wilderness Safaris Photographer of the Year
Nurturing future environmental heroes is a key focus area for Children in the Wilderness, our non-profit partner and beneficiary of this year’s competition. Accordingly, we are delighted to introduce this new under-18 award.
OVERALL WINNER
One overall winner will be chosen from across the four categories.
Prize
Olympus TG-6 Camera and a mentorship with a judge, Olympus ambassador or with Girls Who Click.
People’s Choice Competition
The entrants of each category will be put to a public vote on the website.
Prizes
The photographer whose image receives the most votes (overall) will win a four-night safari for two people sharing, including charter flights, to two Botswana Classic camps, as well as an Olympus E-M1 Mark II 12-40mm F2.8 Kit. The total value of this prize is USD13 000.
A hamper prize will also be awarded to the photographer in each of the four categories who receives the most votes per category.
IN ADDITION one lucky voter will also win a safari prize: a three-night safari for two people sharing, including charter flights, to two Botswana Classic camps, to the value of USD7 500. Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.
COPYRIGHT: By submitting images to the Wilderness Safaris Photographic Competition website each entrant confirms and
warrants that:
- they are the sole author of each entry and that it is their original work;
- they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image;
- they have the permission of anyone pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by Wilderness Safaris and will indemnify Wilderness Safaris against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement;
- they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by Wilderness Safaris; and - they have received any necessary permissions from the owner(s) of objects including buildings included in submitted images for the usage rights required by Wilderness Safaris and will indemnify Wilderness Safaris against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement USAGE RIGHTS: Entrants retain ownership and all other right to future use of the photographs they enter. By entering any photograph, Entrants specifically agree to the following:
- your entry to the contest constitutes your agreement to allow your entered photographs—and your name, country of residence and photo information—to be published as Winners or Honourable Mentions on the Wilderness Safaris websites and social media platforms.
- and you grant to Wilderness Safaris and its licensees an irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entry (along with a name credit), in any media now or hereafter known for the purposes of the promotion of the photo competition.
Wilderness Safaris may, in its sole and absolute discretion, reproduce the images submitted by the Participant in publications, marketing material, social media and printed media as well as to utilise the images for commercial activities with the purpose of charitable benefit. Commercial activities with the purpose of charitable benefit to entail:
- The auction or selling of image either online or as part of an exhibition
- Developing a coffee table book as a gift or to be sold in our trade store Images used on merchandise commissioned by the organizers will be discussed individually with the photographer
concerned and a separate agreement will be made.
