There are literally hundreds of thousands of online magazines out there and with many being created each and every day, it comes as no surprise that you won’t know all of them. In fact, you haven’t even seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the world of digital publications!

Because of this, it can be hard to think outside of the box. There are probably plenty of popular online magazines that you’ve wanted to submit your photography to, but how about the smaller, lesser-known publications just waiting to be discovered by the masses? You’d be surprised by the gems you can find if you start journeying down a different path.

Solstice Magazine

Solstice Magazine was created by London based fashion photographer Sebastian Santa Maria, so he certainly knows a thing or two about the craft! Currently up to its 14th issue, the magazine is making waves on a global scale, attracting submissions from countries such as Chile, Argentina, Brazil, USA, Canada, Mexico, U.K, China, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Egypt, Thailand, The Phillipines, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Ukraine, Russia and many more. 

The publication further explains on its website:

“The magazine is a high quality publication with a view to giving fashion and photographically orientated creatives another platform for expressing themselves through the visual and written mediums. With the magazine in its infancy, we look to nurture the talented creatives of this world and hope we can grow with them. HUF Magazine

When it comes to genres, HUF Magazine is a bit of a mixed bag, making it an ideal publication to submit to if you’re a photographer who likes to produce work across many different aesthetics. Another great fact about this emerging online magazine (which also produces print issues) is that they don’t discriminate when it comes to the expertise of photographers being published.

They further explain: “HUF Magazine is the creative magazine for the creative mind…It’s a gateway for creatives, who deserve recognition of their work, whether they are amateur, student, semi-professional or professional.”

HUF Magazine has an international readership, allowing those who have their work showcased within the publication to reach a worldwide audience. HUF might be recognised as a lesser-known magazine, but with almost 20,000 likes on Facebook alone, you know that this could very well be the next big thing in terms of creative platforms.

The Atlas Magazine

The Atlas Magazine is a high-quality and inspirational online publication with a strong focus on fashion, particularly fashion photography. It was founded in 2012 by Megan Breukelman and Olivia Bossert, both trained photographers in their own rights (so you know it’s going to be good!).

The online magazine publishes regular editorials over on their website, along with quarterly digital issues. The website sheds some further light on the publication, stating: “[It is] an inspirational digital magazine geared at the promotion of the next generation of fashion creatives…Atlas is a collective of imagery from around the globe. The magazine previously reached international print distribution, and currently thrives in digital content.”

Mad Sounds was founded by Giselle Melendres and is “a publication for creative minds and innovators”. Don’t be fooled by their smaller social media following – this online magazine is set for very big things (plus numbers aren’t everything)!

Based in Long Beach, California, Local Wolves is an online and print publication delving into the most creative minds from the world of arts, entertainment and culture. If you’re a female who loves supporting #girlpower and all things creative, then you’re in for something special. Mimp Magazine is not just a visual feast for the eyes, but it’s also an intellectual and spiritual treat for both your mind and soul.

The publication’s website sheds some further light, explaining: “Mimp Magazine is an online and print fashion and lifestyle magazine for young women with an aim to empower and inspire one another. We’re redefining beauty and femininity by embracing our imperfections and creating safe spaces for women to share and thrive.”

Mimp Magazine is always in need of photos that adhere to their aesthetic and overall aim of empowering and inspiring women. They accept submissions from young adults aged 14-24 (however some exceptions can be made).

Noice is a very unique online publication with a concentration on photography. The platform explains: “NOICE is a publication and platform for all artists that have a very meticulous style when it comes to photography and illustration work. Colin Czerwinski is the founder, editor and curator of NOICE and he is also a photographer and visual artist. He currently resides in Bluffton, South Carolina, and his publication is certainly attracting plenty of love from photographers worldwide.

Coco Indie

Ok, so Coco Indie has been around for a while and is particularly popular among photographers and creatives who love whimsical, feminine, and fashion-forward work. However, when compared to the widely-distributed photography publications found in stores all over the world, this online magazine (which also previously produced print issues) is still considered to be relatively ‘lesser-known’. Because it is so stunning, we certainly wanted to shed some more light on it!

Coco Indie (formerly Coco) explains itself as “an online platform where art meets fashion in one of the most creative and independent ways”. They further state: “Coco Indie editors know just how much of an impact the online digital magazine world is having on the way we view editorials and stories today. It is important to us to stay up to date and with the times of our readers and contributing artists.”

SÝN Magazine

SÝN Magazine is another high-quality and stunning publication and online platform that prides itself on showcasing the photography and work of talented creatives around the globe. It was founded and created in 2010 by three photographers: Bethany Grace, Emily Tebbetts and Julia Wang. The website further states: “SÝN MAGAZINE is an independent quarterly visual publication that runs parallel to an innovative digital platform… Limited edition copies of each issue are available through Blurb, featuring fashion photography from photographers, stylists and designers around the world.”

Streets Magazine

Are you a fashion photographer? Chances are you’ll love Streets, an online magazine and platform which also releases biannual print editions.
