Planar lines that wind, wend and soar through an image’s field of focus. Curving components within a photograph give the image depth, allowing the viewer’s eye to move through the frame almost effortlessly. It is almost as if the photographer takes the viewer by the hand, draws them into the frame, and points the way. The viewer’s eyes are compelled to follow the line of the curvature. Curved lines are graceful, rhythmic, dynamic, and add energy to an image. They can separate or connect elements or simply offer a balance to a photograph. Arches, circles, S curves and implied curves can be created by a variety of subject matter. Darkroom Gallery is calling for images that possess this curvy compositional trait. This exhibition will be juried by photographer and Filter Photo Festival Executive Director, Sarah Hadley.
