Photo of the Year 2014
Photo of the Year 2014 – Photos that make the cut will be posted online for public voting from February 8 through February 15, 2015.
After public voting, our judges will select the Photo of the Year from the ten top vote-getters for the Top 100 category and the first place winner from the top five vote-getters from all other categories.
Photo of the Year 2014 and the first place winner of the other categories will be revealed online on February 20, 2015!
All POTY photo submissions received will be compiled in random order and viewed by an impartial and unbiased panel of judges organized by Friends of Outdoor School and Outdoor Project. Their selection process will result in the Top 100 semi-finalist photographs for Photo of the Year and 10 semi-finalist photos each in the categories of People in Nature, Youth, Professional, and this year’s surprise category. These semi-finalist photographs will then be posted to the Photo of the Year web site, at which time online voting is launched to the world.
Visitors to the website between February 8 and February 15, 2015 may vote for their top 10 favorite photos in the Top 100 and their number one favorite photo in each of the four other categories. The online voting will conclude at midnight on Sunday, February 15, 2015. After public voting, our judges will select the Photo of the Year from the ten top vote-getters for the Top 100 category and the first place winner from the top five vote-getters from all other categories.
Top 100 – Dramatic vistas, stunning flora and fauna, an artful picture of a door…you name it. Top 100 photos can be of just about anything (anything fit for family consumption, that is). As the name implies, 100 photos will compete against each other for the honored title of Photo of the Year 2014.
Professional – Just like last year, this is a place for you pro photographers to participate. The Photo of the Year will still go to an amateur photographer, but this category will showcase work done by the professional photographers out there. So send us your best! For details on who we consider and amateur and who we consider a professional, please see our contest rules & regulations.
People in Nature – This category expands on the theme of Outdoor School, as our experiences there can inspire a lifetime of finding fulfillment in the outdoors. We like to say spending time outside in the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest can inspire some exquisite photographs. Photos of people interacting with water, plants, animals, and yes, even soil, are all welcome in this category.
Youth – Are you a student with a strong attachment to your digital camera? This category is for photos taken by those 18 and under and submitting your photos to this category is free. Use that youthful imagination and make your parents proud.
Surprise Category – To Be Announced
Today, Photo of the Year is run by a small group of dedicated volunteers and has been supported by Friends of Outdoor School, with ongoing support from Uncage the Soul Productions. This year, Outdoor Project has joined the organizing team. With the efforts of Friends of Outdoor School, support from our sponsors, and your participation, Photo of the Year 2014 is poised to showcase more amazing photography and raise thousands of dollars for Outdoor School!
So, don’t wait, get out there and take those cool photos!
