Belfast Photo Festival 2015
Belfast Photo Festival is offering artist’s/photographer’s the opportunity to exhibit their work in the main Festival gallery alongside some of the biggest names in the field, with a number also having the opportunity to be featured in the arts magazine Abridged. The winners will be eligible for a number of awards, including a cash prize of £1,000.
The theme has been left open to remove any restrictions; submissions must be photographic or lens-based but can include incorporations of other art forms with the photographic medium (i.e. performance, painting, sculpture, music, literature etc).
Individuals and collectives are welcome to apply; individuals should select and enter between two and six photographs from a particular series or body of work AND/OR submit their Photo-book for exhibition by uploading a single PDF (no image limit).
(Note: You can submit both a photo-book and photographs of the same project, but a fee will need to be paid for both. If submitting only a Photo-book and not photographs, it will be your photo-book that will be selected for presentation and not photographic prints for exhibition)
Collectives are also welcome to apply; as a collective, you can submit up to 10 photographs (a £15 submission fee will apply for every 10 images submitted)
Between 20 and 40 photographers / artists will benefit from:

inclusion in the special Festival issue of Abridged Magazine
long term Festival representation and promotion
exhibition alongside some of the biggest photographic names as part of the major photographic event
being seen by a substantial number of visual arts professionals and the media
having their work viewed by an international panel of influential experts in the field of photography
The Belfast Photo Festival has invited a panel of influential international experts in the field of photography to assist in the shortlisting and selection of artist’s. The Jury consists of:

Karen McQuaid – Curator: The Photographers Gallery (UK)
Andreas Müller-Pohle – Artist & Publisher: European Photography Magazine (Germany)
Matt Packer – Curator: Centre of Contemporary Art (UK)
Michael Weir – Director: Belfast Photo Festival (UK)
IdeasTap Award – £1,000 ($1,568 / €1,260)

This year the Open Submission will be hosted by IdeasTap. All submissions must be made via IdeasTap.com. Please ensure you follow the instructions outlined carefully otherwise your submission may not be valid. Submissions cost £15*
*The submission fee charged is in aid of the 2015 Belfast Photo Festival and directly contributes to the organisation and delivery of the Festival for the benefit of all participants. Belfast Photo Festival is a charitable non-profit organisation.

All applications must be received by 5pm (GMT), 6th March 2015. Applications
received after this time cannot be considered. Selected artists will be
contacted by early April 2015. As part of the first stage of a two stage process,
shortlisted artists agreed by the Festival Curator and Board will be announced
on the Belfast Photo Festival and Ideas Tap websites March/April 2015. In the
second stage, winners, selected by the Jury will be announced on the Belfast
Photo Festival and Ideas Tap websites in April 2015.
The public dates of the Festival are 4th– 30th June 2015. (Festival launch on
the 4th June). Some exhibition dates may be longer depending on exhibition
All exhibitions will be installed between 25th May – 4th June 2015, selected
works must be available for installing during this period.
After the Festival, selected artists must arrange for the collection of their work
from Belfast from the 5th July 2015, unless otherwise arranged with the
Festival team. This will be discussed as relevant.
The installation of the Open Submission Exhibition will be assisted and
overseen by the Belfast Photo Festival team with involvement of the artist
where relevant. Artist’s will be responsible for the transportation of their work
to and from the Festival, as well as their own insurance. The Festival will
however help facilitate the return of work.
The applicant agrees to supply all photographs/photo-books selected for
exhibition, printed and professionally presented (Photographs:
framed/mounted, Photo-books: Bound) ready for hanging/display.
(For artists that require their work to be printed/framed/mounted in Ireland, the
Festival will provide help/assistance in making the necessary arrangements
on behalf of the photographer/artist.)he applicant agrees to insure the requested prints/photo-books are suitably
packaged and reach the Belfast Photo Festival by 25th May 2015, ready for

2015 Open Submission Exhibition USAGE RIGHTS: All selected entries may be published by Belfast Photo Festival or affiliated
Sponsors/Funders and Partners (the “Authorised Parties”) in magazines or
books, on websites, or in any other medium, at Authorised Parties discretion.
Such use will be restricted to promotion, publicity, news, or informational
education or awareness usage of Belfast Photo Festival.By participating, all selected applicants grant Belfast Photo Festival and its
Authorised Parties usage of images and acknowledge that any Festival and
Authorised Party may use the entries and a name credit in any media before,
during and after, without restriction in relation to the uses stated above. The
Belfast Photo Festival and Authorised Parties will not be required to pay any
additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with
Belfast Photo Festival is not responsible for any problems with or technical
malfunction of any telephone, computer online systems, servers or providers,
computer equipment, software, failure of any online entry to be received on
account of technical problems, human errors of any kind, or any combination.
