6th North Pacific Research Board Photo Contest

North Pacific Research Board Photo Contest Each year, NPRB conducts a photo contest featuring beautiful images of sea life, seascapes, coastal scenes and marine research within the waters of the North Pacific Ocean including the Gulf of Alaska, Prince William Sound, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, Bering Strait or Chukchi/Beaufort Seas

Enter Beautiful images of underwater sea life and marine research within the waters of the North Pacific Ocean including the Gulf of Alaska, Prince William Sound, Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands, Bering Strait or Chukchi/Beaufort Seas, particularly subjects that relate to NPRB’s research themes including: plankton, invertebrates, fishes, seabirds and marine mammals; or images of people engaged in conducting research, diving, fishing, subsistence, and other activities. Include the location and date of the image in your photo caption. Images of captive animals photographed in zoos and aquariums are prohibited. Do not submit photographs of pets or domestic animals.

For the 2015 edition of the North Pacific Research Board’s (NPRB) photo contest, NPRB asks amateur and professional photographers to make a bigger splash—it’s time to go underwater! Whether you’re more comfortable wading in (or dunking your camera into the water, as the case may be) or diving deep, we want to see your best images of marine life and marinescapes. Be creative—use a polecam or attach a camera to your fishing net; use a wide-angle or macro view; take over-under shots that are half in the water and half out; wear a camera the next time you go diving—the possibilities are endless

Anything from a camera phone to a compact point-and-shoot to a dSLR or professional equipment can be used to capture a winning image. However, to ensure eligibility, entries must have a resolution of 5 million pixels or greater. For reference, the iPhone 5s takes photos at about 3200×2500 pixels, i.e., 8 million pixels. Images that do not meet the minimum resolution may or may not be judged at the judging panel’s discretion
