Australian Professional Photography Awards
APPA is the acronym for the Australian Professional Photography Awards, which are held annually and usually coincide with the staging of either the “Digital Show” or “Digital Playground” organised by the Imaging and Digital Entertainment Association (IDEA). The current major sponsor of APPA is Canon, who have been major supporters and sponsors of the AIPP and APPA for many years. In recognition of Canon’s support, the awards are more properly referred to as “The Canon AIPP APPA” or CAPPA for short.
Professional photographers from Australia and all over the world compete in a number of categories, and for the coveted title of “Professional Photographer of the Year”.
AIPP Members who participate in Canon AIPP APPA are able to accrue “award points” which count towards the achievement of Associate and Master status within AIPP.
There are many challenges working as a professional photographer. It can be a somewhat solitary existence and difficult to put your work into perspective within the Australian and world market. How good is your photography? Is it of professional standard? Is it above professional standard? Do you need to improve? Can you be rewarded for producing award winning images?
Entering APPA provides you with many answers. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s the best of its kind in the world. By submitting three or four of your images, you can challenge yourself and receive independent, authoritative feedback about your work.
While all photographers aim to win the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photographers of the Year Award, APPA is designed to appeal to photographers at all levels.
First time entrants can aim to earn at least one Silver Award. Once you’ve earned your first Silver, strive for your Associateship by earning five award points in four years. Use your Silver and Gold Award certificates in your studio and market your success to your clients. Earned your Associateship already? The next step is Master of Photography. If earning one Silver is easy, can you earn four Silvers in one year? Or maybe an elusive Gold Award? And don’t forget to aim for one of the many category awards and prizes!
To be eligible for the Major Award, entrants must be an AIPP member or a non-member residing in Australia and must first win one of the following categories. Category winners are determined from the top three highest aggregate submissions of four images entered into a category by a selected panel of judges.
