THE FENCE 2014

THE FENCE 2014 Photographers of all levels are invited to submit their best image series that capture the essence of “community” for inclusion in THE FENCE 2014.

Each year, THE FENCE – Brooklyn’s premiere summer-long, outdoor photographic exhibition – invites photographers from around the world to explore and define the meaning of community across cultural boundaries and geographical lines.

After an incredibly successful inaugural exhibition at Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2012, UPI and PDN invited Flash Forward Festival as a partner and the FENCE was extended to include a special curated version at the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway in Boston.

Armed with the task of curating such a large, public exhibition, we assemble a jury of more than 30 highly-respected photography professionals from around the world, who offer their time, energy and years of experience to curate this monumental outdoor exhibition.

THE FENCE presents the work of 40 talented photographers from around the world to a combined audience of over 1.5 million visitors each summer.

Photographers of all levels are invited to submit their best image series that capture the essence of “community” and fit into one or more of the competition categories:

Streets: The shared spaces we walk, bike, drive, protest, and travel – streets are the lively conduits of community.

People: Unique individuals form communities – linked together by common interests and characteristics.

Home: A dwelling place and an everyday retreat – home is the place of most intimate community.

Play: Spontaneous or planned, PLAY is a physical or mental activity that we engage in for enjoyment.

Creatures: Whether domestic, wild, mythical, or alien, creatures play an integral role in our “ecosystems” – both personal and universal.

Please note: Each submission may consist of up to 6 images that share a thematic or narrative connection between them.
