This year the total prize money is an incredible AED 1,000,000. There are 3 challenging photographic categories and 1 video category into which to enter your photos of Al Ain. This year there are 3 challenging photography categories to enter and 1 video category.
Personalities and Cultural Icons – This category focuses on capturing the personalities of Al Ain from various age groups, and how they interact with the scenery of the magical city.
Sustainability – In this category the photographs should be all about the projects or initiatives that are related to environmental sustainability and the conservation of natural resources. Al Ain City Municipality is an active deliverer of such projects as well as other initiatives in the city of Al Ain.
Lifestyle – The city of Al Ain offers a unique lifestyle. It is peaceful and humble in a manner that befits the traditions of local lifestyle. It is also diverse and integrates many nationalities and cultures with their own patterns to life. This category provides the opportunity to represent that variety and even the contrasting lifestyles of the diverse individuals living in the city.
Video category: General – You can submit any video taken in and of Al Ain. So tell us a story in 30 seconds. Video is a great story telling media and 30 seconds is the length of the average TV commercial so more than enough time to share your vision in an engaging, entertaining and beautiful way.<br />
Photographs and videos should be submitted online through this website and you can send up to 5 photographs and 2 videos for consideration by our distinguished panel of judges. You need to submit your photographs and videos before 16th March and you can easily access the submission page through Facebook and Twitter.
Should you win you will need to attend the Award’s ceremony to collect your prize. The ceremony is expected to be held on April 2nd 2014 and will be hosted in Al Ain.
The competition is open to anyone, there are no age restrictions and submissions can be made by UAE Nationals, residents and non-residents.

The Awards Patron
Sheikha Dr. Shamma Bint Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan, is one of the most prominent cultural figures whose reputation goes beyond Al Ain City. Her Highness heads a number of cultural and educational platforms in Al Ain City, the most important of which are Sheikh Mohammad bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Center, and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan Association for Future Generations. Sheikha Shamma is also the chairman of the board of administration of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan Generations School.
Her Highness attained a PHD in Political Sociology, (on the subject of political and social security in the UAE – 1998), a Masters degree in Women’s Studies on the subject of women’s job satisfaction in the UAE, as well as a B.A in History and Islamic studies from the United Arab Emirates University.
Her Highness’s personality and vision revolve around creating new roles for civil society and strengthening its position as an essential partner for sustainable development. Laying the foundations of a civil culture that praises voluntary work and turns it into a lifestyle, and developing the mechanisms of cooperation with all government and civil institutions is at the heart of Her Highness’s work. Sheikha Shamma Bint Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan is also concerned with encouraging and enabling personal initiative, as well as with widening the scope of involvement of the members of society especially women, in public affairs and inviting them to assume their social responsibility.
One of Her Highness’s main goals is also to contribute to the establishment of a civil culture based on the spirit of partnership, tolerance and transparency. This is achieved through a series of cultural events that are meant to enlighten and inspire. Such events include book fairs, films, debates on instructional and educational subjects, as well as events promoting cultural dialogue and raising awareness about Islamic culture. – Cultural development and the strengthening of national identity, field study on the citizens of the UAE.
– Civil Society in the UAE – Published on trial basis by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khaled Al Nahyan Center.

Sheikha Dr. Shamma Bint Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan, is one of the most prominent cultural figures whose reputation goes beyond Al Ain City. Her Al Ain Photographia Award is brought to you by Al Ain City Municipality (AACM) – Public Relations and Communications Department. AACM believes in the importance of visual arts and its aesthetics and the joint effort to achieve the goal of the competition by collating the most appealing photographs of the magical city.
The objective is to establish a library that encompasses a photographic timeline of Al Ain, also known as ‘Dar Al Zain’. ‘The English translation of ‘Dar Al Zain’ is ‘The Home Of Grace’. A lot of thought has been put into the idea of the competition, and how it should be determined, framed, and directed. Many regional and international media resources have been used to reach a broad audience.
AACM is considered one of the founding establishments and continues to plan and oversee the progress, evolution, and growth of Al Ain City. The Municipality plays an important role and has a great responsibility in improving services and programs that raise the quality of living in the city.
Latest global standards of efficiency and quality, in communication and technology, have been adopted in the workplace to manage the various services provided to the residents of the city. Employees alike have the opportunity and support to develop their skills to deliver fast, advanced, and quality services to the residents of Al Ain.

The entrant permits the organizers to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for publication and/or display in media related to the competition as well as for marketing purposes by the City of Al Ain both inside and outside the UAE.
