2014 Scottish Seabird Centre Nature Photo Awards

2014 Scottish Seabird Entries for the 2014 Scottish Seabird Centre Nature Photography Awards are now welcome! The deadline for entries is Sunday 19 October. We have streamlined the entry process, which is now all online to keep it nice and simple!

Our judges will select a shortlist which will go on display in the Scottish Seabird Centre – there will also be a special online gallery. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite from the shortlist and in EACH category there will be a winner selected by the judges and a winner selected by the public.

There are six categories for adults to select from. Entrants are invited to submit up to three images in a maximum of three categories. In each category there will be a winner selected by the judges and a winner selected by the voting public.

Creative Visions of Nature: Images inspired by nature that are innovative and artistic. Photos can be figurative or conceptual, but should provide an alternative or unexpected way of viewing natural subjects or scenes. This category asks the photographer to be creative and non-traditional in viewing, capturing and presenting the natural world.

Environmental Impact: What is the impact of climate change and/or human activity in nature and the natural environment? Images submitted in this category seek to explore this theme and should thoughtfully convey the connections of cause and effect.

Landscape: These can be taken from anywhere in the world. The images should contain the visible features of an area of land whether mountains, plains, sea or coastal.

Scottish Wildlife: These can include reptiles and insects, with all images taken within the wilds of Scotland. The wild can consist of any natural place from a garden to a national park. Images should seek to reveal Scottish wildlife in moments that create a lasting impression.

World Flora: Plant life from the UK or around the world, this category can include natural occurring life such as fungi and algae. Images should aim to capture the flora whether in its own splendour or part of the wider natural environment.

Worldwide Wildlife: Images in this category can be captured from anywhere in the world – outside of Scotland.

Junior: Youngsters are encouraged to submit their photographs under the theme ‘Urban Jungle’. This category seeks to uncover some of the unique biodiversity close to where they live, study or go on holiday. The Junior category is divided into two age groups: under 12s and 12 to 16.
