2014 Nikon Small World competition

2014 Nikon Small World competition The 2014 Nikon Small World competition is open. A photomicrograph is a technical document that can be of great significance to science or industry. But a good photomicrograph is also an image whose structure, color, composition, and content is an object of beauty, open to several levels of comprehension and appreciation.

The Nikon Small World Competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. Truly international in scope, entries have been received from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Winners have included both professionals and hobbyists.

The subject matter for this year’s contest is unrestricted and any type of light microscopy technique is acceptable, including phase contrast, polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, darkfield, confocal, deconvolution, and mixed techniques. Entries submitted to Nikon are then judged by an independent panel of experts who are recognized authorities in the area of photomicrography and photography. These entries are judged on the basis of originality, informational content, technical proficiency and visual impact.

Entries may be submitted either on film (in 35 millimeter transparency format) or uploaded digitally through your web browse

PRIZE DETAILS: 1st Prize – $3,000*. In addition, the winner will be invited to attend an awards presentation ceremony in New York City as Nikon’s special guest.

Photomicrographs must be taken using a light microscope. Maximum file size is 100 Mb (megabytes), and it is recommended the file size be no smaller than 3 Mb, although smaller file sizes will not be disqualified. Files must be in: .JPEG, .TIFF, .PICT, or .PSD format. Please submit the highest quality image with regard to file size, bit depth, and resolution Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.

COPYRIGHT: No Copyright Policy USAGE RIGHTS: If your entry is selected by Nikon as a winning image, you will give non-exclusive rights to Nikon to use your name and the image in connection with the competition. You also certify that you hold the rights to grant such permission. Winning images will only be used in connection with the Nikon Small World Competition and accompanying publicity and will include appropriate photo credits.

Contestants will be notified regarding image usage rights should Nikon be approached with any commercial opportunities related to a submitted image or images.
