Black and White: Mastering the Art of Photography
A juried exhibition of black and white photography. There is often a classic, nostalgic and dynamic translation to black and white photography. Black and white has an important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery. Contemporary photographers are involved in this dialog of history and tradition, but with their own modern voice, visions and aesthetics of imagery.
Juror: Chris Bennett
Christopher Bennett is a photographer and photo educator living in Portland Oregon. His work experience includes the George Eastman House, the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and Photo-eye Books & Gallery. Chris is the founder and Director of Newspace Center for Photography.
Black Box offers free framing, matting and printing for our exhibitions. The photographers who are selected into the exhibition by the juror will provide a high resolution Tiff or JPEG file for our gallery to print. If the photograper prefers, they can send in framed work or prints that we can frame for the exhibition.
We have 18” x 24” black frames. Our white mats are pre cut for 12” x 18”, 12” x 12” and 12” x 16” prints (we also have a few other odd sized matts). We print on an Epson Stylus Pro archival ink jet printer, on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper, in a color-calibrated environment. This is a very accurate custom print, just like a custom lab would print, we have over 20 years of custom printing experience.
