“For countless generations, people have stared out to sea, mesmerised by the distant horizon. For artists and photographers, the sea lends itself to a range of expressive, descriptive picture-making. The works that were presented to the judges in the Lens Mist 2012 competition showed a diversity of approaches to a common subject. There were images of the limitless beauty of the sea and sky, photographs of extraordinary coastal landscapes and pictures that were a celebration of the experience of being at the beach. All the works presented evoked a sense of the limitless wonder of the sea, and inspire viewers to set off on all manner of journeys of discovery.” Susan van Wyk
