Amateur Photographer of the Year Competition

2012 ECHO Int’l Photojournalism Student Competition

ECHOlogo Free press and freedom of expression: with Charlotte readying for the Democratic National Convention, The Echo Foundation, in partnership with The Charlotte Observer, proudly celebrates these ideals against the backdrop of this year’s national election with the launch of the 2012 ECHO International Photojournalism Student Competition. Acclaimed New York Times photographer, Tyler Hicks, will choose the competition winners.

Echo invites students worldwide who are committed to using their creative talents in service to humanity, to participate in this digital competition by responding with original photography to the questions: “What does democracy or tyranny look like?” or, “What does justice or injustice look like?”

Tyler Hicks will choose one Grand Prize Winner and up to four Awards of Merit winners from among the best submissions as determined by a panel of professional photographers.
