2012 International Conservation Photography Awards

icpa The International Conservation Photography Awards (ICP Awards) is a premier worldwide photography event focused on conservation and the environment.  An exciting addition to the program this year is that the Burke Museum has agreed to “tour” the top images to other national museums and venues after the show closes in Seattle. What an incredible opportunity for photographers, through your work, to have an impact on an even wider audience! And we hope this provides an even greater incentive for you to participate.

Images must be in keeping with the mission of the ICP Awards. We ask that your image(s) convey a clear environmental / conservation theme. Please accompany each submission with one descriptive sentence, phrase or word, especially the “At-Risk” categories. We are certainly looking for beautiful photographs with fine composition, etc.  but moreover, images should convey a sense of urgency of what would be lost in our world if the subjects of your photograph(s) no longer exist on this planet or in the universe.

Categories:

Community at Risk: Focusing on environmental threats and issues particularly pertaining to our cities and urban areas, including humanity’s positive and negative impacts.

Landscape: Depicting the beauty and diversity found throughout both the protected and unprotected natural landscapes of the world.

Wildlife: Depicting the diversity of animal species, their behavior and habitat, including endangered species.

Flora: Depicting the beauty and diversity of plants throughout the world, including endangered species and ecosystems.

Underwater: Depicting the beauty and diversity of marine or freshwater animals or plants, including inherent environmental/conservation themes.

Documenting a Conservation Project: This special category seeks images that document a conservation project in which you, as photographer, are personally involved. Provide up to 6 images documenting the project.

Puget Sound at Risk: Special category depicting the environmental issues and humanity’s impact on Puget Sound in the Northwest United States.

Student: Images pertaining to any of the above categories submitted by student participants enrolled in college undergraduate or high school programs.
