Photography Event: Inspire Photo Retreat Takes Place This February in Newport, Rhode Island

February 6, 2016

If you’re in the photography business, you probably set some goals for this year to grow your business, to make enough money to justify getting a new piece of equipment, or perhaps to improve your photography skills. If any of this applies to you, you should look into attending the Inspire Photo Retreat, which is coming up in February (2016).

What is it?

The Inspire Photo Retreat is a conference run by Enna Grazier, Mark Higgins, and Eric Foley

which is geared toward professional wedding and portrait photographers. It is structured as a 3-day retreat with many opportunities to learn from, network with, and have fun with other photographers. The founders created Inspire because they found that other, similar conferences  didn’t focus enough on personal growth and networking, so they wanted to provide this kind of experience for the photography community.

Generally speaking, the conference will go something like this. Monday, you’ll attend a community-wide workshop, hands-on breakout sessions, and a welcome dinner. Tuesday, you can choose from various 90-minute lectures to attend. You can also check out the vendor lounge, or attend supper clubs and a dance party. On Wednesday, there will be more 90-minute lectures and you can still stop by the vendor lounge. Throughout the entire conference, there will be opportunities for mentoring, networking, and portfolio reviews.

When & Where?

The next Inspire Photo Retreat will take place in Newport, Rhode Island at the Hyatt Regency. It will last for three days—February 8, 9, and 10. The registration fee is $539 for all three days, with one dinner and three lunches included. On Monday, registration will start at 8 a.m., and the last activity will take place at 10 p.m. On Tuesday, the events will last from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. You can see a schedule of the entire retreat here.

What will I get out of it?

The whole point of Inspire is to support photographers and their businesses. They focus on three main areas when it comes to learning and improving: craft, vision, and business. If you feel you have plenty of room to improve in these areas, this retreat will greatly benefit you.

Another reason to attend a photography conference is for the networking, fun, and friendships. You’ll get to meet other photographers who are just as passionate as you are, and won’t mind when you talk their ears off about lenses you really want. Inspire has lots of events that were created to foster socializing, so it’ll be more than just a learning experience—it’ll be fun, too!

What Past Attendees Have Said About It

Inspire is real. So real that it hits you in the gut, turns you on your head and you’re thankful for it. It’s one of those events that forces you to think about what you’re doing as a photographer and why you’re doing it. Inspire is community.
