A Message from the

Photography Co-ordinator

2015

The Henry Lawson Festival has a long and distinguished history in supporting and promoting The Arts in NSW and beyond. Running continuously since 1958, the Festival is the oldest running festival of the Arts in NSW. I am pleased to announce the Photographic Competition and Exhibition is once again going to contribute to and enrich this diverse celebrationnof The Arts.

Our Photographic Competition has always been held in high standing. Photography is one of the four statuette categories. The 2015 overall Photographic winner will receive the Festival’s statuette by sculptor Michael Mandelc of Katoomba. The statuette is cast in bronze and depicts Henry Lawson’s “The Drover’s Wife”.

The Photography is a platform for photographers to share their skills and gain public recognition, while the exhibition is a source of appreciation and enjoyment for the visitors to Grenfell’s Henry Lawson Festival of The Arts.

The theme of this year’s Festival, “Our Kiwi Mates”, arises from the links between Henry Lawson’s time in New Zealand, celebrating Gallipoli and the ANZACs. As it marks 100 years since the landing at Gallipoli, 2015 is a big year where we rejoice in the spirit of Mateship, the Bush, Honesty and Beauty. This leads to the Photography theme of “Rural Spirit”.

Having an overarching theme leaves the doors of creativity open. Keeping entry to the competition simple, we are having the following categories:

• Open – Colour

– Black and White

• Junior (under 16yrs)

– Colour

-Black and White

We encourage all to create and enter their photographic vision of “Rural Spirit” to the Henry Lawson Festival of The Arts Photographic Competition.
