The Creative Self-Portrait

Laurie_Freitag_Where There is a history of self portraiture which is changing due to the advent of the cell phone and the rise of “selfie” style image making. There is also a whole new conversation around the differences between the two. We would like you to push the boundaries of your image making and find something more challenging than the ubiquitous cell phone selfies.

Plato actually rejected the concept of creativity, preferring to see art as a form of discovery. Surrender to what has been convenient and think of new levels of art making and think beyond what you see everyday. Discover, detect, notice, observe. Perhaps there is more to a portrait than just a pretty face? Consider the use of space and light, of color and motion. How do you express your own identity? There are no rules other to make your image as you want it. Your story will be in the image. We want to see it.

LA Photo Curator is proud to have Jane Szabo as this month’s curator for “The Creative Self-Portrait.” In 2014 Szabo’s, “Sense of Self”, solo exhibition ran at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art. See WHO WE ARE for more about Jane Szabo.
