Syngenta Photography Award

syngenta The second Syngenta Photography Award invites photographers from all over the world to explore the tensions and relationships between scarcity and waste through compelling imagery. Photographers can submit their images in two categories – The Professional Commission and the Open Competition.The Award, worth a total of US$65,000 in prize money, is now open for entries until September 15, 2014.

Be part of a creative dialogue about our changing planet. The very best photography reaches beyond language. It is a powerful medium for communicating across boundaries, cultures, and different perceptions of the world.

Through compelling imagery, the Syngenta Photography Award aims to draw attention and stimulate dialogue around key global challenges. The award offers photographers an international platform for their work and also provides the opportunity to explore issues of global significance. This year photographers are invited to explore the theme Scarcity-Waste.

Entries are judged by a distinguished international judging panel chaired by the author and curator William A. Ewing.

William A. Ewing is a curator, author and museum director. For many years he was also a professor at the University of Geneva, where he taught the history of photography.

Ewing was Director of Exhibitions at the International Center of photography in New York from 1977 to 1984, and Director of the Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, from 1996 through 2010. His many publications include monographs on Ray Metzker, Leonard Freed, Erwin Blumenfeld, Edward Steichen, and Arnold Newman; and thematic publications on the human body, the portrait, landscape photography, and photography and dance, among other subjects.

Ewing’s exhibitions have been shown in leading museums and galleries throughout the world museums including MoMA and ICP, New York; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; the Jeu de Paume and the Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Serpentine Gallery, the Hayward Gallery and the Barbican Art Gallery, London; the Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid; the Musee de l’Elysee, Lausanne; the Kunsthaus, Zurich, etc

Professional Commission category (in US$ or equivalent in local currency):
- First prize: US$15,000 + up to US$25,000 for the Commission project
- Second prize: US$10,000

COPYRIGHT: Alll photographs submitted must be the work of the individual submitting the images. Entrants must own all rights to any photographs submitted to the Syngenta Photography Award. This includes, but is not limited to the documented consent of identifiable third parties (model release form), where applicable.

Copyright in all photographs submitted for the Syngenta Photography Award remains with the respective entrants USAGE RIGHTS: Each entrant grants a worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual license to Syngenta to feature any or all of the submitted photographs in any material connected with the Syngenta Photography Award. Photographs submitted for the competition will not be used for any other purpose (such as commercial advertisement or marketing activities of Syngenta products)
