2013 Civil War Trust Photo Contest

Show us your best Civil War battlefield photos of 2013! Fancy yourself a modern day Alexander Gardner or Mathew Brady? If so, we have a contest for you. The Civil War Trust is proud to announce the opening of our 2013 Annual Photography Contest. Individuals may enter their photos into any of five different contest categories:

Civil War 1863 (tag: CWT1863): In honor of the Sesquicentennial, this new category is for photos of Civil War battlefields and sites associated with the third year of the Civil War.

Civil War Battlefields (tag: CWT13BF): This category is for all your great photos of scenic Civil War battlefields.

People on Civil War Battlefields (tag: CWT13P): This category focuses on people visiting or enjoying Civil War battlefields.

Preservation Threats (tag: CWT13PT): Enter your photos that showcase modern threats to Civil War battlefields.

Then & Now (tag: CWT13TN): In this category entrants will upload a historic photo and a modern photo of the same Civil War site.

Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: Grand Prize: One winner will receive a Civil War Trust Photo Contest 2013 plaque and their photo will be included in various Civil War Trust presentations, both online and offline. The Grand Prize winner will also receive a one-year Civil War Trust membership and complimentary registration to our 2014 Annual Conference.

First Place winner in each category: Five winners total will receive a Civil War Trust Photo Contest 2013 plaque and their photos will be included in various Civil War Trust presentations, both online and offline. The First Place winners will also receive a one-year Civil War Trust membership (or membership extension). Additionally, the winner of the “Then and Now” category will receive a free registration to The Center for Civil War Photography’s 2013 Image of War seminar.

Second and Third place winners in each category: Five second place and six third place winners will receive a Civil War Trust Photo Contest 2013 plaque and their photos may be included in various Civil War Trust presentations, both online and offline.

People's Choice winner will receive: a Civil War Trust Photo Contest 2013 plaque and their photo will be included in various Civil War Trust presentations, both online and offline. The People's Choice winner will also receive a one-year Civil War Trust membership (or membership extension). ELIGIBILITY: Worldwide / 13+ Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.

COPYRIGHT: Individuals submitting photos must possess the full rights to their submitted photos. Photos including material of questionable ownership may be excluded. The one exception to this rule will be in the “Then and Now” category where historical photos in the public domain (ex. Historical photos of the Civil War that are in the public domain) and property attributed, can be accepted as supporting material.
Individuals submitting photos into the contest retain full rights to their photos, including ownership USAGE RIGHTS: Through the act of participation (entering a photo into our contest and tagging those photos with the appropriate contest tags) Individuals grant to the Civil War Trust a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, and display the submitted photos which might include, by example, methods listed below:
The right to publish the photo in our magazines and other non-electric media
The right to publish the photo in any Civil War Trust press release (online and offline)
The right to publish the photo on our website (civilwar.org, Civil War Trust Flickr™, etc.)
The right to publish the photo in our Civil War Trust calendar
The right to use the photo’s title, your name, city, state, and country of residence in our publications.
The right to publish the photo within any sponsors’ website, TV, and print properties
Any Civil War Trust contest photo published outside of our Civil War Trust Flickr™ site will be presented with the photographer’s name – example: “Photo by Ulysses Grant”

By submitting photos in the Civil War Trust’s Annual Photo Contest, entrants give the Civil War Trust permission to use photos in press releases, electronic or print promotional materials, and other outlets. You understand that you may not be notified when your photo is used and that you will not be compensated for the use of your photo. This permission is granted in perpetuity.
