Baseball, tennis and frisbee. A large crowd on a bright Sunday afternoon cheering on soccer teams, middle age man in orange shorts practices chip shots – narrowly misses two teenage friends playing chess at the first in a long row of chipped and worn, mottled concrete tables with benches. An important three point shot is made while a gaggle of disinterested girls pass around an Iphone with last night’s episode of ‘Dancing With the Stars’. Jean-Claude, Peek-a-Boo and “the agony of defeat” mark snow skiing in many minds. Swimmers leave the edge of the pool. Divers snap each other with towels. A proud grandfather claps loudly as his grandson bounces off another helmeted and padded youngster, neither certain of their Sppurpose or which direction to go. Traffic is at a standstill – a red truck pulling a sailboat sits behind a trailer carrying a racecar behind a ’69 Cadillac with two bowling balls in white and black leather bags in the rear window. Ping Pong is big in China. Native American’s first played Lacrosse. Clay pigeons were invented in 1880 — If pigeons smile, they were smiling. Surfing.
