Portraits of Britain Photo Contest

ESRC-Logo Are you a keen photographer? Can you capture the meaning of ‘social sciences’ and ‘society today’ in a single picture? If so, the ESRC Portraits of Britain photographic competition could be for you.

We are launching this free competition to capture images of what life in Britain means today.

Categories: Environment, Public services, Politics, Economy and business, Society,  Culture, media and sport, International.

Young photographer prizes (17 and under): has the theme ‘Social science is…’

The competition is run in partnership with the tenth annual ESRC Festival of Social Science and the winning entries will be showcased at the ESRC’s 2012 flagship Festival event in London this autumn.

Whether you are a photography novice, a keen amateur or a professional photographer, the competition is an opportunity to capture your portrait of Britain.

Contest Prize & TERMS

PRIZE DETAILS: £250 in vouchers to purchase photographic equipment for winners of each of the seven categories.

Young photographer prizes: First prize: £100 photographic equipment vouchers, Second prize: £50 photographic equipment vouchers and Third prize: £25 photographic equipment vouchers

Public favourite: £500 photographic equipment vouchers

All winning and shortlisted images will be displayed in a Portraits of Britain exhibition. The free exhibition will run from 9-11 November 2012 and the photographers of all 25 exhibited images will be notified.

All winning and shortlisted images will appear in a celebratory spread in the ESRC’s newsstand magazine, Britain In 2013. Each winning and shortlisted photographer will receive a copy of the magazine in November 2012.

An awards ceremony for the winning photographers will take place in London on 8 November 2012 with winners’ prizes presented by the Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science. ELIGIBILITY: UK Not eligible to enter? - Find contest where you are.

COPYRIGHT: All entries must be the original work of the entrant and the entrant must hold full copyright of the images. Entrants will retain full copyright in their image USAGE RIGHTS: By entering the competition, entrants agree to the ESRC publishing and exhibiting their image(s) in perpetuity as part of its work, without payment for use. Entrants grant this non-exclusive right to ESRC within any type of media.

By entering the competition, entrants agree for their images to be publicly displayed in online photo galleries on Flickr and Facebook, in compliance with their user terms and conditions.
